If you've ever wondered where you can get one of the famous purple "I'm with the Band" polo shirts custom embroidered with your name, now's your chance! Friday September 16, between 5pm and 7pm, during the Pigskin Roast Football event, AFM will be selling the "I'm with the Band" polo shirts, These shirts are normally only available this 1-day of the year, so get yours now! If you can't be there at the Pigskin Roast, contact Bill Butler to pre-order. Also available will be additional AFM spirit wear, car magnets, lawn signs and our new band calendar. |

Overthe past few years, the band parents have come together to provide yummy snacks for our hungry marching band students at the end of Tuesday night rehearsals. We will continue this every Tuesday throughout the season. The kids really love it after they have had a long, hard day. Suggestions for what to bring: cookies, cupcakes, brownies - any treat that teens would love! We do have some allergies in our band, so please everything needs to be peanut free 100%. If you are interested in bringing snacks or helping serve please email Allison Cox.
Thank you! |
New Earplug
shipment has arrived!

Earplugs are now available again for purchase. These earplugs are especially designed for musicians and are available to all members of the marching band (and anyone else who wants them). All musicians are encouraged to wear them. Students can purchase earplugs for $10.00 through the band council or by contacting Nancy McGhee. Remember that it takes a while for your brain to get used to processing sound through the earplugs. The music will sound funny at first. Please wear them for several practices before you decide whether you like them. |

Enjoy Labor Day Weekend!
 No practice on Saturday.
Information on 9/9 football game There is a home football game on Friday 9/9. PTSA's newsletter detailed the 9/16 home game, but rest assured the Marching Dons will be making their debut NEXT Friday.
Report time for the game is 6:00 pm (which means 5:54 in attendance block with instrument). Students will be dismissed from the band room by 9:00 pm. All students must take their uniforms home after the game. Any uniforms left in the band room will result in a lowering of the performance grade for the game.
Band Uniform for the first game is as follows (report at 6:00 wearing the following) Marching band shoes Black socks Jeans (as dark as possible) Band t-shirt No jewelry, ladies hair pulled back
*New members will receive their band t-shirts in class next week. If the shoe order has not arrived in time, new members waiting for shoes should wear the darkest shoes they have that they can march in comfortably.
Colorguard Uniform for the first game is as follows (report at 6:00 wearing the following) Black shoes (or as dark as possible) that can be marched in comfortably Black socks Black dance/active pants Band t-shirt No jewelry, ladies hair pulled back
A special thanks to Jereen Gilbert for organizing the uniform fitting and distribution process this year!
The props are coming, the props are coming! Thank you to the people below for volunteering their time and labor towards building the props for this falls marching band show! Look for them at Tuesday's band practice.

Volunteer with the ROAD WARRIORS!

Still looking for an opportunity to support the band? Consider joining the Road Warriors. Our primary role is to move band equipment to and from competitions and help the Pit (or front ensemble) students move their equipment on and off the field at competitions and home football games. No heavy lifting is required and scheduling is flexible. If you aren't interested in helping at competitions we could still use your help with tasks such as maintaining or cleaning equipment. Being a Road Warrior is fun! Virtually all Road Warriors return multiple years but we do need to replace those whose students have graduated. Please contact Rich McManus, for more information. |

Uniform Fitting Almost Complete-
It takes a Village!
We had over 40 wonderful volunteers show up to give anywhere from an hour to a couple of days helping us to fit the band students for their uniforms. Even two former students, Sarah White and Ted Newman helped us with this task. Special thanks go to my co-leaders Lien Do and Gale Naylor and to the volunteers who were there for all 4 days: Andrea Burnham, Lynn Hickson, Barbara Kennedy, Eva Kitayama, Leticia Lopez, Mary Mookerjee, Maria Overly, Hallie Wake and Emily Yim.
A quick check of your student's garment bag will let you know if you have a complete uniform. Gloves, Gauntlets and Shakos are handed out at the performances; Pants, Socks, Shoes and Jackets should be at home. Those students who are missing pants are either having them ordered or hemmed. If they are being hemmed and you have not pre-paid, it is not necessary to send a check as we will conveniently bill your students account for $12. The hemmed pants will be delivered to the students following a Tuesday night band practice.
We have almost completed our most successful fitting to date and the final inspection will be done by the staff at the first formal dress. So what is all the fuss about? Well, the uniform is part of the total score. Most importantly the pant seam line must not show a break near the ankle/foot. Parents, if they desire, can help out with periodic inspections and adjustment of the straps to keep the hem up yet the crouch loose enough for a ½ squat position. If there are any questions or concerns please direct them to Gale Naylor, our future lead..
Thanks
Jereen Gilbert
