Yummy!!

A huge thanks to The Sanciangco Family for treating us all to Nothing Bundt Cakes at our last practice on Monday night.  Yummy is right!

 Big Savings on Scrip!

November and December are the months to maximize your Scrip returns.  AFM will credit your student's account with 100% of your rebate in these big shopping months (instead of the usual 75%).  It's a great way to save while you shop!  Learn more about the AFM Scrip Purchase Program at the Amador music website. The deadlines for Scrip Orders (with Payments) are the 1st and the 15th of each month.

Please note that  "Yolatea" off of Division Street  jointed our group of local vendors. Aside from frozen yogurt they offer gelato, crepes and boba tea. Their contribution to scrip is 10%.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BAND AND GUARD!

Well if you haven't heard, Saturday was a banner day for the band and colorguard.  The band came in first place, earning sweepstakes at the Logan show.  The band also brought home trophies for outstanding music, visual and colorguard.  Special congrats to the guard for their HUGE improvement this season and for posting their best score since 2004.

CHAMPIONSHIP ITINERARY NOW POSTED    Please check the web page for information on championships. You may have heard it is supposed to rain this weekend in Fresno. Rain or shine, Saturday's show will happen and the band will be performing.  Sunday's schedule is subject to change depending on the weather conditions and of course on the band's performance in prelims on Saturday.  Thanks in advance for your patience and flexibility with circumstances that our beyond our control.

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I am thankful for many things in my life, and among them is the chance to be the band director at Amador Valley.  Thank you to each student and parent for your unrelenting dedication and commitment to the music program.  This job rarely feels like a job.  I hope you have a restful week and I look forward to seeing you after the break!  Thank you for a fantastic marching band season!

Important information about RAINY FORECAST for WBA Competition!

Quoting the WBA Website, "Saturday Class Championships will definitely take place rain or shine. Finalist Directors at both sites will meet at the conclusion of the Saturday contests to discuss the potential options for Sunday. In the event Sunday is completely rained out, the scores from Saturday will determine the top 3 bands from 1/2/3A and from 4/5A and medals & banners will be given accordingly."

Parents - if you were thinking of going for only the Sunday competition, you may want to reconsider and attend on Saturday as well.  There is a possibility that Sunday could be rained out.  It is not just the rain coming down, but the rain left-behind from Saturday, that may make the field conditions unusable.  I can assure you that everyone at WBA is working on options to avoid cancellation, but the possibility exists.  Please plan accordingly.

The senior recognition dinner will be held in Fresno as planned on Sunday afternoon, and will be moved to an indoor facility - but as the contracts are not completed yet, it is premature to announce details.  Details will be announced on www.amadormusic.org as soon as the facility is secured.  Senior parents - if you do not yet have your tickets for the dinner and you would like to eat, please contact Nalanda Bowman.

For parents new and ...old?  Well - anyway, the key to this weekend's success is deep-breathing and lots of smiles - and maybe a rain slicker.  Leave yourself PLENTY of time for a safe drive.  As our Head Road Warrior pointed out to me, every 5 mph slower for safety is an extra 15 minutes needed to get to Fresno - and those extra 15 or 30 minutes is worth the safe arrival.  Remember the gate lines can be very long at WBA.

After 7 years of watching the Road Warriors, RA's, bus drivers, grub crews, staff and Mr. Grantham in action, I have no doubt the Marching Dons can take on a little rain, and make this weekend a memorable one.  Thanks to everyone working behind the scenes.

Last but not least - keep an eye on the front page of the website - where all the news about WBA will be posted as it is available.

Medication and Medical Forms for WBA November 20-21

medsFor the upcoming trip to WBA students who take prescription medication regularly must turn in in their medication to Mr. Grantham's office on Saturday morning. Medicine must be in original prescription packaging and then placed in a zip lock bag with any  additional instructions. In order to conserve space please send just enough medication for the overnight trip. This medication will be held by an Rose Roesch an RA, who is a registered nurse, and she will bee available for the students to come and get their meds from her.  Please have your student see me when we return to AVHS, Sunday night to retrieve any prescription medication.

IMPORTANT: As per PUSD policy unless a child carries any life sustaining medication (and Contract to Carry Life Sustaining Medications is signed), NO medications (prescription or over the counter) should be kept in a student's room at the hotel.

Do you think your child may need to take Tylenol or Advil for a headache or may need to take something for an upset stomach at WBA Championships? If so, then you must have the OTC form signed by a physician prior to our trip on November 21st.  Please go to the Amador Music web page and click on PUSD Medication Consent Form  (required for a student to carry medications of any kind while on a trip)

If your student carries any life sustaining medications the Contract to Carry Life Sustaining Medications (for students who carry an inhaler, EpiPen, Insulin or Glucagon) must be signed by a physician and turned in to Mr. Grantham.

This is it!!!

The finals weekend of the 2010 marching band season!  If  you are still "thinking" about going to Fresno - stop thinking and just do it!  Good luck and all the best to Mr. Grantham, students and staff!  Thank you - heaps and heaps - to Jody Harcourt, Head RA and Rich McManus, Head Road Warrior - and all your fellow RAs and RWs who keep the students and gear moving along. Thank you to Emily Yim for her detailed and expert handling of lodging accommodations for the students, staff and volunteers. Special thanks to the Grubmaster Leanne Olberg (who never even got a trial run at BOA) and the rest of the grub crew - who have been planning how to feed 300+ people, three hours away, in an unknown location - and she's still smiling. Wishing every senior and senior parent the special moments that make this a year to remember.  And to the sea of purple - we will swell with pride as the Dons take the field!

Have fun!   And Congratulations!

WBA and Senior Banquet

My appreciation to all the families who have come together and volunteered to help our Senior Banquet at WBA come together this weekend.  I wouldn't be able to pull this off without everyone's help.  Truly, thank you!  Our kids will have a fabulous weekend filled with memories that will last a lifetime.
