Dear !
This month's newsletter is about the accelerate vs brake debate!
Yes I am talking about the political situation in Europe!
And the upcoming London Olympics, and its new motto too.
But mainly about the mobile community...
Accelerate SpringBoard Mobile launches the first mobile only accelerator program and taking application till the 22nd of July.
Chill Out "Someone should build a startup decelerator. 1) No demo day 2) Adequate time to find a product worth building 3) Real & sustainable growth" - @vivsharma
Accelerate The development of WP8 will be competitive with Android & Apple
Chill Out Lumia wins the popularity battle - but no WP8 upgrade.
IAAS-elerate with Google Compute Engine
Chill OSS Apple + OSM = Firefox + Telefonica + Operators
Accelerate Let's do it now = now (US)
Chill out Let's do it now = in 2 months (Europe)
As for my vote, it's definitely accelerate (I am slightly on the hyperactive side after all). I'm particularly thrilled to see what will happen with Springboard Mobile in the coming months! Startup accelerators have been in existence for a while, but seeing emphasis on mobile is a welcome move!
What about you? What are you going to do this summer? Accelerate or Chill Out? Let me know!

Since you read our newsletters, you probably know there's more to WIP than just our great WIPJams, our web site and all our developer activities. We offer a whole set of Developer Marketing Agency services, which we've now put under a new brand: the WIP Factory. The Factory is where we build mobile developer communities. We work with developer programs and tool and resource providers to help them reach mobile developers -- and to make sure they're offering developers the things they want and need, and doing it the right way.
The WIP Factory is built on three key pillars:
- Our team's experience of working with mobile developers for so many years through WIP and other groups.
- Our creative approach to developer outreach and marketing -- the same creative thinking behind our WIPJams and everything else we do.
- Our global presence and connections with developers and local groups around the world.
Whether it's strategic consulting, tactical outreach plans, running a hackathon or scouting and introductions, we can help. Check out the WIP Factory site for more info on how we can help and some of our past work. Let us put the Factory in motion for you!

We are ready to start the 2nd Edition of the Mobile Developer's Guide to the Parallel Universe and we need your contribution!
The 1st Edition was a big success in providing marketing tips to developers about getting their applications to market and extending its lifespan. It is a companion guide to the Mobile Developer's Guide to the Galaxy, in its 10th Edition.
Submission Deadline: Friday August 3, 2012.
We expect to have the 2nd edition published in early September As with the 1st Guide and Guide to the Galaxy, this is an open sourced / community collaboration project. We are seeking sponsorship to offset the printing costs.
To Submit:
- Choose a topic that you want to add to, or suggest one that may be missing.
- Write about 200-500 words
- Keep your writing crisp and concise and a little bit fun
- Do include charts of any visuals you think important (see examples from Edition 1, note they will be transformed to fit the theme)
- No promotion of your company is allowed, do take a generic approach and include all options for developers to consider.
For submission and further information contact Caroline

Caroline and Carlo hosted the WIP Demo Lounge across the street from Google I/O last week, thinking it'd be the closest they get to the action in the Moscone was the video livestream. But then Google went crazy with the keynote, sending skydivers onto the roof of the Moscone and rappellers down its face, right across the street from where we set up. It was certainly a buzz-worthy event and set the stage for a couple of exciting days!
Inside the lounge, we showed keynotes and sessions livestreamed from I/O (a big thanks to the AT&T ARO team for helping us to overcome a bad Wi-Fi setup with one of their LTE USB dongles!), and had presentations and demo tables from our sponsors. The ARO scoreboard started to fill up as more and more developers got their apps' efficiency tested.

Developer Spotlight is WIP's newest blog series, where we feature mobile developers we've met and get the latest scoop on what's up with them. If you would like to be featured in the next developer spotlight, email Sam with your story!
Cody is the cofounder and CTO of Famigo, where he specialize in the development and delivery of cross-platform, mobile experiences for users of all ages. He's also a dad and a husband, a graduate of Trinity University, an ardent supporter of the Texas Rangers and Manchester City, and makes a mean mojito. You can follow him on Twitter @codypo.
What is Famigo? Famigo helps families find and manage apps. Part of this is through our own Android app (iOS is on the way!), the Famigo Sandbox. The Sandbox catalogs all of the apps on your phone and finds the stuff that's safe for your kids to play. Then we build a kid-safe play space on your device, so your kids can play the stuff they like without accidentally calling your boss or deleting your contacts. In addition, we also have an app recommendation engine that's optimized specifically for kids; if you're looking for the best free educational apps for a 4 year old, we're the people to talk to.
I know that you guys want to work with developers. What kind of developers are you looking for and why should they work with you? We'd like to work with any developers who are looking to tap into the family audience. For certain great apps, we can certify them as Famigo APProved, highlight them across our app recommendations, and even bundle them with the Sandbox. We're working to make Famigo the trusted family brand for mobile, and the best way to do that is by constantly getting great apps in front of our users. Developers can find out more on our site.

Every month, WIP publishes the State of the Developer Ecosystem report, which captures the most important news and trends for mobile developer programs and features in-depth analysis of marketing and outreach strategy and tactics. This report brings you foresight on trends and developer sentiment 6-12 months before "official" reports are published, helping you stay ahead of the game and deliver tools and services that meet developers' most pressing and immediate needs. Best of all, you can now buy individual copies or bundles directly from our WIPFactory.com site.
Each report features:
- An in-depth article on a key developer marketing topic, such as the cost of developer acquisition, the Payment API competitive landscape, developer segmentation, and more
- Event summaries from the many events attended by the WIP team each month, capturing the zeitgeist of the developer mindset and local news and trends
- Coverage of local and regional developer hubs around the world, and the hot developers in them
- the WIPBuzz section, where we share overheard developer sentiment collected from our travels and contacts.
The WIP monthly report is a must-read for every mobile developer program or resource provider. It will give you information and knowledge to get ahead of the pack of companies fighting for developer mindshare, to better engage and connect with developers and to bring them to your program. Grab your copy now!
