NEED A FREE PASS TO CTIA? THEN JOIN US AT WIPJAM!

The next stop on the WIP World Tour will be San Diego on October 12, for a WIPJam at the fall CTIA show. Join us for a full day for developers where you'll get the skills and make the connections you need to improve your apps and build your success. Be there if you want to:

  • learn how to get started in the booming mobile enterprise market
  • find new APIs and tools to build better, more engaging and more successful apps
  • get the info you need to work smarter, faster and better
  • meet other great developers and contacts from the most innovative and important companies in the mobile industry

Don't have a pass to CTIA? Don't worry, we've got you covered. Everybody who signs up for the WIPJam on our site will get a free CTIA pass. So register now and we'll see you in San Diego!

Cisco's Cius tablet is an Android tablet that's designed from the ground up for enterprise users, and the Cius Developer Program wants your input on how -- or if -- it should run a developer contest. If you're interested in a contest about Cius apps and other Cisco mobile developer technologies, let them know. If not, that's fine, too, they still want to know! Fill out their short survey on what you think makes for a great developer contest, and you could win a Cius tablet.

Peter Vesterbacka is the "Mighty Eagle" of Rovio, and can be found at mobile events all over the world in his red Angry Birds sweatshirt and carrying some of the plush toys inspired by the game. He's also a longtime friend of WIP, and a genuinely nice guy who's happy to share the lessons he's learned in his long career in the mobile industry with other developers and entrepreneurs. So what are some of the lessions you can learn from Angry Birds and Rovio's success?

- Be persistent! Rovio had made more than 60 other games before Angry Birds!

- Stand out! The Angry Birds icon is bright red so it would stand out in the iTunes App Store, ahead of other dark-colored apps.

- Adapt yourself! The Android version of Angry Birds is free and ad-supported; the iPhone version is a paid download. Be prepared to change your approaches, rather than using a one-size-fits-all plan.

- Use the right tools! In the game, if you need to break through wood, you use a yellow bird; to break glass, blue ones are best. In your work, make sure you're choosing the right tools to hit your targets.

What Makes A Great App? Take Our Survey!

What are the components that go into making a successful app. Is it a good idea? Good planning? Good market research? Good marketing? Practice?
