June 2011

Dear !

Thank you to all our readers for the positive feedback to our first event newsletter last month!  A number of you suggested events that should be added to our Mobile Community Calendar. It is a wiki, so if you know of an event that should be added, please do so or let me know and I will add it.

We are always looking for content.  Please do tell us about events you are attending and why you recommend them.  Event reviews are also welcome.

June continues to be a busy month for events.  July and August dothe Muther! slow down a bit but there are still events to be had.  Our big event "The Muther! of all Hackathons + DevCon" is taking place June 24/25 in Mountain View, CA. People have asked us why we called it the Muther!  It is because it is a cross platform hackathon and a developer conference all in one!  More information below. Join 300+ mobile fanatics for this great event!  Hope to see you next week.

All the best,

Teresa

MoSo Conference, Saskatoon, SK, CanadaMoSo

A great Mobile/Social Media conference was held last week in a seemingly unlikely place - Saskatoon, SK.  Who would have thought that this small city of 225k, with little surrounding population to draw from, could pull off such a great conference and have a sell-out three weeks before it started?  We did, of course, along with the organizing team of 10 hard working individuals lead by Krystal Kolodziejak, SaskTel and Ryan Lejbak, zu.  Caroline Lewko and I (Teresa Ostman) were at this first annual event hosting a mini WIPJam.

Twenty mobile and social media speakers from across North America and 250 attendees from across Canada participated in interactive UnPanel sessions, Master Classes, discussion groups and pitching sessions. The App Showcase featured 15 Saskatchewan app development companies including: Picatic, Noodlecake, zu, College Mobile. Marketplace pitches included a great new app called "Text2Car"!  Look for great things to come from these and other Saskatchewan companies. The innovation and creativity demonstrated at MoSoConf proves that there truly are great developer communities in all parts of the world.

The conference was captured by live streaming video feed, continuous tweeting, active blogging and interviews of key speakers/participants.  Many conference attendees found out about the conference on twitter and facebook - makes sense, after all, it was a Mobile/Social Media conference.
