Hi ! When you read this, I will be taking my first real vacation in over 5ish years - I don't really remember how long. And by real I mean, longer than 3 days, not a quick add on to a business trip, and where I actually put a Vacation Alert on my email and REALLY have no intention of reading any of it. So please contact Teresa or Thibaut if you need a WIPster this week. I'm sure many of you with startups can relate. It's not possible to make time the first couple of years, and then its about convincing your mind to just do it..... what can happen without you in only one week..... Stay tuned! I'm not sure if it's the end of summer, full moon, or my impending vacation, but I'm feeling a stronger sense of instability in the whole platform side of our mobile wireless ecosystem. A pre yearly prediction, but one or two will fall by the end of next year. I see overall lack of strategies or 'strategy via app store' only; no real engagement of developers to find out what they need to make development easier, yet still wanting to own the developer. Owing the developer is a one way ticket to failure; because the dev company won't be able to make enough money and survive. Perhaps we all need to be less frenzied and take time away to get better perspective on how our industry needs to evolve. And taking the time to engage with developers is not as hard as it appears - as simple as taking part in a WIPJAM session! Cross Platform Development or transcoding is becoming the new buzzword. We'll do a deeper dive on this topic at both OSiM and CTIA with the experts like Enough (J2ME Polish), Mobile Distillery, Mobile Sorcery, Metismo, Java Ground, Red5Labs, Innaworks and Siruna (web based). Upcoming for September:- WIPJAM @ OSiM on September 16 in Amsterdam, it's gonna be hot! See more below. Did you know qualified developers get in free? Sign up at www.wipjam.com/osim - I will also be in London the week of September 21 - let me know if you would like to meet. And upcoming fast in early October: - WIP and NGMN present a panel at the ITU Telecom World conference in Geneva, October 7 . - WIPJAM @ CTIA on October 8 in San Diego - sponsorship and speaking opportunities still available. Just in case you were wondering how we can be in two places at the same time - Thibaut Rouffineau will be at ITU, and Teresa and I will be at CTIA. It's been a great summer, but looking forward to catching up with you soon! Best, Caroline
