THE CONNECTOR
News from WIP
December 2008

Dear

I'm really done with CDMA this time.  OK - so I'm supposed to be on a few days of vacation on this lovely beach in Guaruja, Brazil, so maybe it's a sign from a more powerful source that I'm not supposed to have any cell phone coverage and just relax.... But I can only subject my pearly white skin to the sun for a short time before looking like a lobster.    But really, as you folks know, I've been traveling up to 50% of the time lately, and I find keeping in contact extremely difficult (that's my excuse for slow email response btw).  Even basic internet and wifi, which happen to be down in the whole town yesterday, and even at the events I've attended in San Francisco lately, getting a connection was a huge challenge.  So as soon as I get home, I'm heading over to Rogers (not my favorite provider, but no alternatives in Canada for now), and switching over to GSM - thank goodness we now have number portability, so I can keep my coveted, easy to remember for me number.  Enough of a rant!

Good news on the WIP front, I'm please to announce that Arv Singh has joined WIP to lead the charge on our Go to Market Services for developers. Now we can be more responsive and work with many more of you.  More on Arv and the G2M services below.

If you haven't already - Mark Your Calendar for the next WIP Jam session, back in Barcelona on Thursday, February 19, 2008.  Our Developer Advisory group met last month, so we have some good stuff in the planning.  And we are pleased to announce the first confirmed sponsor is Microsoft!  A seperate email update is planned to showcase the agenda, sponsors and the new website.

I do want to put a plug in for Orange Partner Camp this month, Dec 15-17, 2008 in Cape Canaveral, Florida.  OPC has been the Gold standard for Developer Events, so I am sorry to miss it, but Mom is coming to visit that week.  During OPC, Larry Berkin from Access is organizing 1-1 meetings for developers with some high powered investors in a Private Visibility Session  - if you haven't got your spot yet, no time to wait.  More on OPC below.

NEXT STOPS to find WIP in person:
MotoDev Summit, Monday, December 8, Sao Paulo, Brazil, where I am rounding out the event with the closing Summit Jam.
Ed Kay, the newest WIPster is attending the MAPOS event in London, December 9 and 10.
Arv Singh, is attending the Microsoft Mobile Partner Event in Seattle on December 10.
Winston Choe of Innoscape is representing WIP at the Mobile Media Investors Conference in San Francisco, December 9 and 10.

Look for their updates in the January newsletter along with some predictions for 2009.

Best of the holidays to everyone!

ARV SINGH LEADS WIP'S GO TO MARKET SERVICES

Arv Singh
WIP has launched additional Go-to-Market (G2M) services for its membership.

Arv Singh has recently joined WIP to lead the charge and expand these services. Arv started his wireless career in 1994 when the first cellular networks were being deployed in India. Since that time he has had a chance to "connect" with wireless professionals across the globe working on projects and leading sales and business development efforts in Asia, the Americas and Europe. Arv has had the unique opportunity to progress his sales, business development and strategic planning experience working throughout the ecosystem including; infrastructure providers (Harris Corporation, Lucent Technologies); software developers (Infowave Software; AOL Wireless -Tegic; Devicescape) and China's first mobile device ODM (Cellon International).  We have also teamed up with a number of Partners around the world to provide additional insight and links to Europe, United States and China.

Our focus is on connecting developers to information, resources and people to speed their market entry.  We like to start off with the WIP Connector Quiz, a self assessment for companies to determine their level of profile in the industry.  We then offer a number of different services to support our client's growth including a performance based business/sales development offering in association with our Global WIP partners.

Contact Arv to find out more and get started on your WIP Connector Quiz.
