Dear ,
And away we goooooo . . . . September is upon us, which means lots more travel and lots more events. How do you choose between all the events that are out there?
I'm going to keep my remarks short this month 'cause there is lots of information below to cover off on all of our activities at CTIA in San Francisco happening in a few short days:
- we are again producing the Jam Session for Developers, which I must admit the CTIA registration has somewhat overwhelmed us. - along with Wavefront, we are also officially launching the WIPwiki, so please come by booth 1134A to say hi and check it out. - I am speaking at the Fountainblue/WCA - preShowstoppers event on Tuesday, you can register here for that one. - and Smaato launched their Mobile Advertising Awards, where I am pleased to be one of the judges. Next Stops:
Next Stop is OSiM, the Open Source event, the week after in Berlin, September 17 & 18th. We are producing a ' mini-Jam' session there in partnership with OMTP. During our ' mini-Jam', I'm also pleased to support the launch of a new program by the E-Plus Gruppe, the third biggest mobile network operator in Germany, part of KPN. They are going to announce a new program allowing startups and small enterprises to get in touch with the German market fast and easily. Of course - you'll have to come to Berlin to find out more.
We still have a few slots open for meetings during these events, we be pleased to meet with you.
One last announcement: the 3rd Annual Mobile 2.0 event is taking place again in San Francisco, on November 3. There is an amazing line up of speakers, and this year a 'Builders Track'. Registration will open soon and always sells out fast - get on the list by sending an email to info@mobile2event.com, tell them WIP sent you!
Best, Caroline

FEATURED: OMTP and BONDI
OMTP is an operator-sponsored forum that serves the needs of each and every link in the mobile phone value chain by gathering and driving mobile terminal requirements. There are currently 8 full members: AT&T, Hutchison 3G, Orange, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, Telenor, T-Mobile and Vodafone. OMTP also has the support of 3 sponsors: Ericsson, Nokia and Nuance. There are a total of 31 participants from all parts of the industry; including Application software, hardware and the OS space. OMTP is operator driven, but it is scoped to serve the industry as a whole.
The OMTP BONDI initiative is addressing the problem that an application written for one phone must be rewritten again and again if it is to work on all phones. This is the mobile platform fragmentation problem. The cost to the mobile industry of this inefficiency is huge. It slows down time to market, limits market size and increases customer confusion; hence impedes uptake of services. OMTP seeks to remedy this problem by helping to address the way in which the existing web 2.0 environment is moved onto mobile devices. Mobile devices offer new capabilities to web service developers which make them very desirable, but present new security issues. OMTP is defining the key interfaces that enable the mobile web platform to access sensitive functions on the mobile device. OMTP is defining appropriate security that will enable new services and create user trust. By delivering high level requirements, draft specifications and a reference implementation, which will cement those requirements in a solid foundation, OMTP is seeking to provide a consistent, highly desirable, secure interface from web applications to billions of devices in the future. Why BONDI? Because like the Australian beach, OMTP wants mobile customers to have the greatest surfing experience whilst making the experience as safe as possible. "It's safe to surf" For more information about OMTP and BONDI, goto http://www.omtp.orgb
