We are pleased to announce Happiness is... Cultivating Joy in Life, a retreat for Lay Leaders with the Institute for Jewish Spirituality
January 20-23, 2011
American Jewish University-Brandeis-Bardin Institute, Simi Valley, CA
Reb Nachman of Breslov taught "Mitzvah gedolah lihiyot b'simcha tamid - It is a great mitzvah to be happy always." How is that possible? In the rush and challenges of everyday life, how can we be expected to experience continual joy? It seems either foolish or irresponsible.
The simcha/happiness of which Reb Nachman speaks is one of equanimity, balance, and wholeness. It gives us perspective on life and strength to face the many things that each day might bring.
Join IJS Rabbis Rachel Cowan, Myriam Klotz, Jonathan Slater and IJS colleagues Rabbis Jordan Bendat-Apell and Miriam Margles, and Sandra Razieli for a special Shabbat weekend dedicated to helping us open to joy and to grow it in our lives.
Through practices of contemplative silence, prayer, yoga, study, meditation, and song, we will explore the quality of simcha and share in nourishing, joyful community together.
