Greetings!
We are happy to announce the 9th
series of Hasidic text study sponsored by the Institute for Jewish
Spirituality, and invite you to participate. |
 | Torah Study for the Soul: A Contemplative Perspective from Hasidic Texts 5771: Netivot Shalom
|
Join in the expanding circle of rabbis, cantors and lay seekers who
share in the profound and spiritually uplifting world of Torah study with the
Institute for Jewish Spirituality. Beginning with Shabbat Bereshit, October 2, we will study Netivot Shalom, the
teachings of the contemporary Hasidic master, R. Shalom Noah Berezovsky, the
Slonimer rebbe (Jerusalem,
died 2000). The teachings of the Slonimer were published as a complete set in
1997, three years before his death. In fluid, contemporary Hebrew, he weaves
together psychological insight and spiritual sensitivity, grounded in the
language of classical Judaism and Hasidic sensibilities. Speaking primarily to
those for whom traditional observance is a given, the Slonimer over and over
asks for more: the dedication of the heart to seeking to cleave to God. Like
the Baal Shem Tov, he understands all practice to be for the sake of awareness,
waking up to the truth of existence. Once again, Rabbi Jonathan Slater will
facilitate our study, providing selections in translation of this now classic
Hasidic work. Enrich yourself, deepen your experience of Torah study and expand the sources from which you teach by participating in the Institute's Text Study Program. Join us in mining these sources for useful and powerful teachings, informed by a contemplative, mindfulness based approach.

The program will begin one week before Shabbat Bereshit (the first e-mail will be on September 24th). Each week, you will receive an e-letter with a text in translation and commentary for personal application, based on mindfulness practice. We encourage participants to study with a partner (havruta), and will endeavor to facilitate connections when needed. Please visit our website to subscribe to this years' text study. We encourage you to acquire your own set of these texts, and are unable provide the Hebrew versions of the translations (due to copyright restrictions). Below you will find links to three on-line booksellers from which you might purchase the books. These links refer to the five volume commentary on the Torah. You might wish to purchase the two volumes on the Mo'adim and Middot at the same time. Nehora
