Friends,

For me, the 2012 Presidential election seems a long time from now. However, from a campaign and party perspective, the 2012 elections are just around the corner. As your local Democrats, we are working now to ensure that we reelect Barack Obama and Maria Cantwell, keep the Governor's office blue, and elect a Democrat in our new 10th Congressional District.

To lead the effort to build and strengthen our local Democratic Party, we reelected Carin Chase as Chair at the January meeting. Chris Eggen and Stephanie Harris were elected as Vice Chair (a full list of officers are on the District's website).

The primary focus of the District over the next two years is party building. We had many great volunteers come out for our candidates in 2010, but we would like more Democrats to become PCOs, and to ensure that we represent the values of Democrats in the 32nd.

We hope that you will join us on February 9 at our monthly meeting and learn how to effectivly lobby your legislators to make our community a better place.

State Committee Update

Elaine Phelps and Chris Roberts

On January 29, 2011, the Washington State Central Committee met in Olympia to complete the process of reorganizing the State Democratic Party. The body voted to reelect Dwight Pelz Chair of the Party for the next two years. The vote was 145 for Dwight and 14 for Whatcom County Democratic Chair Natalie McClendon.

The State Committee will develop rules and procedures for the 2012 Caucus and Convention cycle and Delegate Selection Plan for adoption at the April meeting.
