Dear ,
"An individual has not started living until he can
rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the
broader concerns of all humanity." - Martin Luther King
Today, we pause to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King. After his ascention as chair of Southern Christian Leadership Conference, King devoted his life to social justice, for all Americans. We encourage everyone to think of ways that you can help fulfill King's vision - at home, and abroad.
Tomorrow, you have an opportunity to help ensure that health care legislation is passed through Congress. A special election is being held on Tuesday to elect the successor to Senator Ted Kennedy. We need your help to ensure that the Democrat, Martha Coaxley is elected, and health care reform stays on track. Please take five minutes and call five Massachusetts voters and remind them why it is important for them to vote. You can make calls from the comfort of your home.
Locally, we encourage everyone to vote for the Edmonds, Northshore and Shoreline School bonds and levies, as well as the King County Library levy, which are on the February 9 ballot. For more information, please check out the links: Edmonds, Northshore, Shoreline. In Shoreline, you can find volunteer opportunities, including cell phone parties and "rah rah" locations at http://voteyesforshorelineschools.org.
Fired up!

Shoreline Historical Museum
The Shoreline Historical Museum opened in 1976 in the Ronald School building as part of the nation's bicentennial, dedicated to preserving, recording and interpreting the history of the historic Shoreline area, (85th to 205th, Puget Sound to Lake Washington) and its relationship to the Northwest region. In 1989, the Shoreline School District issued a quit-claim deed, giving the Ronald School building to the Shoreline Historical Museum for its continued use as a museum to benefit the community.
Since 1976, the Shoreline Historical Museum has played an important part of our community, through the display of historical exhibits, its public research archives, and community events celebrating the history of the region. The Museum has a hands-on history event at the Shoreline Arts Festival, and helps sponsor the Celebrate Shoreline Cruise-In Car Show. The Museum opens its doors to community groups and civic organizations to use their community gathering space.
The location of the Museum in the Ronald School building in the Shoreline Town Center is valuable for a couple of reasons. First, the building itself is a historical treasure. The building is a community landmark and, at nearly 100 years old, is the oldest public building in the City. Second, the Museum's location in the center of Shoreline means that as the Town Center develops, Shoreline will remain rooted in its past. Should the Shoreline Historical Museum move, either into a new location, or into a consolidated space, the Museum may lose up to a year or more of operations, as the exhibits and archives are put into storage.
We encourage you to visit the Museum and learn about our region's history. The Museum is open Tuesdays - Saturdays from 10 am - 4 pm.
More information can be found on the Museum's website - www.shorelinehistoricalmuseum.org
