"Oh, what a night,"

- Nancy Pelosi
Dear ,

"This is History."

- President Barack Obama, November 7, 2009.

Just over a year ago, we came together and elected Barack Obama as President of the United States. What a year this has been. Just this weekend, the House passed a heath insurance reform plan. Last month, one of our State Representatives, Maralyn Chase was appointed to a White House task-force on climate change. Imagine what can happen in year two of Obama's Presidency for the residents of the 32nd Legislative District.

We are also excited about the election results (King) (Snohomish) from Tuesday. Residents in the district soundly defeated Initiative 1033 and approved R-71. We helped elect Dow Constantine as King County Executive, as well as many of our endorsed candidates.

As a district, we are looking ahead to our next challenges.
The 32nd District will soon encompass a large portion of the City of Kirkland. Next year, we are charged with adopting a new platform - a task that we begin at our District meeting on Wednesday, as we seek to identify our own Democratic values.

We seek to represent every self-identified Democrat in the 32nd District, and want our platform to reflect your values. Please stop by Wednesday evening at the American Legion Hall in Shoreline and tell us why YOU are a Democrat.

Fired up!

Delegate to the Washington State Democratic Party Central Committee

We congratulate our winning candidates

We are proud of all of endorsed candidates and the campaigns they ran. As a District we look to endorse candidates that reflect and promote our Democratic values.

We look forward to working with the following candidates in the years to come.

Dow Constantine - King County Executive
Lloyd Hara - King County Assessor
Joe Wilson - Snohomish County Municipal Court
John Creighton - Port of Seattle
Rob Holland - Port of Seattle
Adrienne Fraley-Monillas - City of Edmonds
Strom Peterson - City of Edmonds
Bob Hensel - City of Kenmore
Will Hall - City of Shoreline
Chris Roberts - City of Shoreline
Susan Phillips - Edmonds School District
Matthew Pruitt - Finn Hill Parks Commission

Nile 2November Meeting - "Identify your Democratic Values"
Location Change - American Legion Hall, Shoreline 14521 17th Ave NE

This Wednesday is Veteran's Day - and also the regular meeting of the 32nd District Democrats. Since we do not have access to our regular location, we will meet at the American Legion Hall in Shoreline.

Agenda:
  • Welcome
  • Announcements
  • 2009 Election Debrief
  • "Identify Your Democratic Values" - Platform discussion #1
  • New Business (including possible PCO appointments)
--------

After  a debriefing on election results, members will break up into groups to discuss their Democratic values based on the the 32nd District Democrats general questionnaire that candidates who seek endorsement are required to fill out.  We will consider four of the sections, namely:
  1. Tax, Budget & the Economy
  2. Education
  3. Legal Rights & Prisons
  4. Environment
  5. Elections, Diversity & Civil Rights.
Each person will be asked to choose one category, found at http://www.32democrats.org/library/864, and answers those questions. At the end of a 30 minute small group break out discussion, we will convene as a group to share a few of our experiences. It is hoped that each person will take the time to look over the questionnaire before coming to the meeting.

One goal of this activity is to lay the groundwork for adopting our platform at the 32nd District Democrats caucus on March 13, 2010. More information on the platform and the caucus will be contained in future emails.

Al Gore launches Repower America Wall

The Wall is a place where literally thousands and thousands of people committed to a revolutionary new energy future for our nation and the world are coming together -- to express our hopes, share our resolve, and step up to a leadership role in building a grassroots movement for change like nothing America has ever seen. It's an opportunity for you to be part of the climate movement in a new way, in a way that takes us beyond ourselves.

By asking people from all over the country to share their thoughts and images on the Wall, we are fueling a campaign that brings together the power of national media with the strength and connection of on-the-ground organizing in a way that no one has ever done before. Your voice, and the voices of your friends, neighbors and colleagues, will become the language of our campaign on TV, in print, on billboards, online, and in brand new ways that you will help us invent as we create the Wall.

We know that the political will to transition America to a clean energy economy already exists. You are part of it. But now we must make sure our leaders know it too. The Wall will become our collective voice and thus transform the debate into action.

Together, you and I will use the Wall as the foundation for all of our activism in the days and weeks ahead.

But first, I need you to meet me at the Wall.

Share your voice on The Repower America Wall right now.
Institute for a Democratic Future - Now Recruiting for 2010!

The Institute for a Democratic Future (IDF) is now recruiting for the Class of 2010. We'd love to have a good showing from the 32nd District this year.

What is IDF?  IDF is a six-month program for young adults (ages 21-36 from diverse backgrounds and from all over Washington state) intended to develop and promote emerging Democratic and civic leaders in Washington state.  The program focuses on three core areas:  public policy, the legislative process and campaigns/elections.  IDF is accepting application through November 20th.  For more information on the program and to apply online, please click here.
