Dear ,
Elections are essential to democracy.
- 32nd District Democrats Platform(.pdf)
The 32nd District Democrats encourages and reminds everyone to postmark their ballots by November 3, or delivers them to a dropbox location by 8:00 pm on Tuesday. As Democrats, we all agree that the defeat of I-1033 and the approval of R-71 are of utmost importance in this November's election. It is up to you to make sure that we preserve funding for our schools and other services. It is up to you to ensure equal rights for all Washingtonians. What will you do help these causes? The 32nd District Democrats encourages votes for our endorsed candidates. We believe our candidates best exemplify our shared Democratic values. Our candidates went through a thorough evaluation process by our members and were supported by at least 60% of our membership. This weekend, please come out to support our endorsed candidates and issues. If you are unable to help, please let me know and I can set you up with a way to make GOTV calls from your computer. Fired up!

Representative Maralyn Chase Selected to White House Clean-Energy Task Force
ST.
PAUL, MN
- State Rep. Maralyn Chase (D-Shoreline) has been selected to a national
working group of state leaders working with the White House to advance federal
clean-energy legislation in Congress. The group met for the first time in late
September via phone, tackling energy policy issues that will put the country on
course for significant progress in the clean-energy economy.
"Washington
and many other states have shown real leadership building a cleaner, more
energy efficient future," said Rep. Chase. "State legislators play a
unique role in clean-energy jobs policies. We're elected representatives of the
people, we know the businesses and labor issues in our states, and many of us
see federal action as the launching pad for the next generation of innovation
and prosperity in America."
Washington
is uniquely positioned to contribute innovative ideas for nationwide
clean-energy policy reforms. Under the leadership of Governor Gregoire,
Washington state is one of several states recognized as a model for the
country's new clean-energy economy.
Rep.
Chase will be participating in the working group along with 40 other state
legislators from across the nation.

Health Care Bill to Contain Public Option
"Today marks a historic day for
the health of all Americans and a huge victory for the people of Washington
state," said Congressman Inslee. "The Affordable Health Care for America Act (.pdf) will insure 36 million Americans, makes coverage affordable for those who
don't have it, ensures families won't be turned away from coverage for
pre-existing conditions or face losing their coverage if they become sick; and
will reduce the federal deficit and begin to reduce costs for working families
struggling to keep up with rising health care costs. We have accomplished
what no Congress has before; health care legislation that ends decades of discrimination
against Washington state, and our providers, for the high-quality care they
provide; and moves the health care system to one based on quality of results
rather than quantity of services - saving the American tax payer billions of
dollars."
Rep. Jay Inslee serves as a member
of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the primary committee of
jurisdiction over this landmark legislation. Inslee was appointed a lead
negotiator by Speaker Nancy Pelosi to resolve the longstanding problem of some states,
like Washington, being penalized by their efficient, quality care. The
provision that Inslee successfully incorporated into today's health care
legislation will ensure that Washington doctors and hospitals receive equitable
reimbursement rates for their services, while putting in place a mechanism to
drive down health care costs in the most expensive places across the
nation.

King County Democrats stand united behind Cindy Ryu
October 30, 2009 Dear Democrats, Earlier this year, the King County Democrats were proud to endorse Cindy Ryu for re-election to the Shoreline City Council. Cindy was first elected in 2005, and is currently the Mayor of Shoreline, which makes her the first Korean American Woman Mayor in the United States. She is an active member of the Democratic Party, where she currently serves as State Committeewoman for the 32nd District Democrats. As Mayor, Cindy's record has been impeccable. She ran on a platform of transparency and opening up Shoreline City Government to all - and that's exactly what she's done. Thanks to Cindy, Shoreline now has long term plans to grow it's economy, create jobs and protect our natural environment. She is smart, tough and stands on a solid base of Democratic values. Please, I urge you to support Cindy in this year's campaign. Make sure to postmark your ballot by Tuesday, November 3rd. With warm regards,
Susan C. Sheary KCDCC Chair

Statement on Negative Campaigning and Future Steps
The 32nd
District Democrats hold ourselves and our
endorsed candidates and elected officials to
high standards of ethical conduct. Our platform states: "Campaigns should focus on the issues, and should be
positive and should not include personal attacks." We encourage our
endorsed candidates to sign our Civility Pledge. Our efforts are designed to promote the Democratic Party in our district, support all of our Democrats in office, and champion our endorsed candidates and issues.
With the 2009 elections coming to a close, we must identify our unifying values and what we expect from our national, state and local governments and of our elected officials. We still have much work to be done as we partner with our elected officials in Olympia and D.C. to enact our platform, especially under these economic conditions.
At the November meeting, Stephanie Harris is going to lead small group discussions about why we are Democrats and we plan to use these discussions as a first step in creating a platform that we can adopt at the LD Caucus in 2010. We know that many of you have been unable to participate in the regular business of the organization because of work or family commitments but we encourage you to share your views of how we can move our Party forward together.
