Celebrate a Decade of Inspirational Films in Oakland
This month, Oakland will celebrate the 10th annual Oakland International Film Festival, held April 6-8 at the Oakland Museum of California. This year's films will include documentaries and narratives by Oakland locals under the theme "Big in Oakland," with sub-topics such as "Made in Oakland," "Black in Oakland," and "Healthy Economics." Many films touch on historical moments in the city, such as the Black Panther movement and the Berkeley/Oakland firestorm disaster 20 years ago. Others cover global issues such as policies concerning deforestation and the cholera outbreak in London in 1854. The festival is filled with a blend of inspiring and emotional films, many that raise important questions about society and reflections of personal growth.
