'Tis the Season for Entertainment in Oakland

Spend the holidays in Oakland and you'll find a blend of

traditional entertainment and unconventional activities for everyone in your family. Not interested in the typical holiday activities? Head to Peralta Hacienda for Zorro by Night: Fiesta, Flamenco and Fire. Take Flamenco lessons, watch Zorro films, participate in a costume contest and enjoy historical cocktails. Or catch a show at the Fox Oakland Theater, with performances by Morrissey and Iron & Wine, followed by Wilco and Social Distortion in the new year. For those in the mood for entertainment with a festive flare, check out one of the many performances at The Paramount Theatre. Johnny Mathis, the Oakland Symphony Chorus featuring Joan Baez, and the Oakland Ballet Company's Nutcracker will all be at the Paramount in December. For more events, visit www.visitoakland.org/calendar.

Bring the Kids to Oakland's Annual Holiday Parade

The time has come for the much anticipated America's Children's Holiday Parade on December 3, a celebration held in downtown Oakland each year. Floats, balloons, marching bands and plenty of characters will all be a part of the event. PBS Kids' Miss Rosa and Mr. Steve will be back to celebrate the festivities with the kids. Millions of people across the country, parts of Canada and overseas will be watching the televised event in Oakland. For more information, visit www.oaklandholidayparade.com.

Holiday Events to Spark Your Spirit

Boost your holiday spirit this year at one of Oakland's festive happenings. Head to Rockridge in the Snow  on November 26 for a rare chance to see snow in the neighborhood. On December 2, live music, previews of the Holiday Parade floats and other entertainment will supplement the lighting of the holiday tree in Jack London Square. The Oakland Zoo will light up with ZooLights in December, when the meadow is all lit up with thousands of energy-efficient LED lights. The Dunsmuir-Hellman Historic Estate hosts A Holiday Tradition December 3-18, including mansion tours, carriage rides and breakfast with Santa. Get lost in the Temescal Holiday Labyrinth on December 4, designed by local artists. Get your shopping done at the Holiday Gifty Art Sale & Open House December 10-11 at The Crucible, or treat yourself to the Post Holiday Blowout Sale at the Oakland Museum of California December 26-31. Bring the kids to Children's Fairyland December 16-23 to discover the lights, arts and crafts, decorations and other traditions of various cultures at Fairy Winterland. A series of Chanukah celebrations will take place December 20-28, including the Grand Menorah Lighting. For more events, see www.visitoakland.org/calendar
