Remember Them Unveiling
On September 6, join the community of Oakland in the grand unveiling of "Remember Them: Champions of Humanity." This bronze statue, covering 1,000 square feet and weighing about 40,000 lbs., will be resurrected in the Henry J. Kaiser Sculpture Park in Fox Square, next to the Fox Theater. Artist Mario Chiodo created the piece in honor of 25 humanitarian leaders such as Abraham Lincoln, Harvey Milk, and Mother Teresa. The monument also caters to the visually impaired, who will be able to touch and feel the monument and humanitarian quotes featured in braille. Maya Angelou, also featured in the statue, will be at the unveiling to speak. For more information, visit www.remember-them.org. |
