Pixar: 25 Years of Animation at Oakland Museum      Nemo
Walt Disney's arrival in Los Angeles in the 1920s firmly established California as a magnet for animation artists in the decades to come. The Oakland Museum of California's new exhibit PIXAR: 25 Years of Animation provides an unprecedented look at the renowned studio and showcases the creative work behind its wildly successful computer-animated films. After its opening in New York and its five-year international tour, the exhibition comes home to Oakland on July 31. The OMCA presentation includes all of the artwork from the original presentation at MOMA, plus art from Ratatouille, WALL·E, UP and Pixar's latest film, Toy Story 3. After the show, pop over to Piedmont Avenue for a cone at Fenton's Creamery, the ice cream shop immortalized in UP. For more Oakland Museum of California exhibits, visit: www.museumca.org.
Onboard Adventures Kayaks
Take to the water this summer to enjoy beautiful views of the Oakland estuary or Lake Merritt. Paddle a kayak in a class at Jack London Square, on your own or on full-moon tour. Celebrate the presidency aboard the USS Potomac, FDR's floating White House. Commute to San Francisco or Angel Island on the Alameda/Oakland Ferry. Sail, paddle or pedal a small boat from the Lake Merritt Boating Center. Sound too tiring? Watch the action from a waterfront restaurant such as Scott's, Miss Pearl's Jam House, Kincaid's, Quinn's Lighthouse or the Lake Chalet. For more boating options in Oakland, visit www.oaklandcvb.com.
