Spring Cycling
Cycling

Pedal power is great for the environment and the body, but it's also a terrific way to see Oakland's scenic views. The East Bay Regional Park District has everything from paved flat paths to challenging remote backcountry trails for more advanced mountain bikers. The popular website Map My Ride includes hundreds of Oakland options, including the Claremont to Pinehurst loop. For a flatter and more leisurely ride, check out the birds at Lake Merritt or Martin Luther King Shoreline Park. Here's a sporty double feature: pedal + paddle at Jack London Square with rented kayaks and bicycles. For more information and post-ride lunch options, visit www.oaklandcvb.com.
Easter Events
Easter
Get Easter rolling with an Old Fashioned Egg Hunt & Games day at Dunsmuir Hellman Historic Estate. Watch the Dance 10 Tap Dancing Easter Bunnies at Children's Fairyland. Other entertainment over Bunny Weekend includes storytelling, puppet theater, arts and crafts and a chance to meet real bunnies. Toast Spring with a mimosa and an alfresco brunch at Miss Pearl's Jam House, Lake Chalet, Scott's Seafood or the Claremont's Meritage. Find healthy treats to fill your Easter baskets at one of Oakland's many farmers markets, including Fridays in Old Oakland, Saturdays at Grand Lake and Sundays at Jack London Square.

Strictly Sail Pacific
Boats Galore
You don't need to own a boat to enjoy a boat show. Long a mecca for things nautical, Jack London Square will be awash with boats and boaters in mid-April as two of the West Coast's biggest nautical events come to town, Strictly Sail Pacific and the Pacific Powerboat Expo. A single admission ticket gets you into both shows. Activities include free sailboat rides, wine tasting, celebrity speakers, local regattas and youth activities. Local sailing schools will be on hand to answer questions and the marina will be filled with a tempting array of new and previously owned vessels. Looking to get on the water before the shows? Hop a ferry to San Francisco and back or go for a paddle with an hourly rental from California Canoe and Kayak.
