Temescal's Global Fare
Few neighborhoods have a fraction of ethnic culinary diversity as the Temescal District along on Telegraph Ave. Dona Tomas offers the stylish yet casual atmosphere of a Mexican villa, with dishes such as sopa de lima and halibut tacos. Pizzaiolo is as famous for its creative cocktails as for its pizzas. Drop by in the morning with a laptop or the paper and enjoy coffee and warm donuts. Barlata's Catalan born chef Daniel Olivella presents Spanish tapas, including seafood-stuffed piquillo peppers, mussels in escabeche and house-cured sardines. Asmara showcases Eritrean and Ethiopian dishes, while Tanjia specializes in Moroccan delicacies. New to the neighborhood, Burma Superstar presents a menu with culinary influences from China, India and Thailand. Perhaps more American than Italian but still tasty, Lanesplitter offers pizzas to eat in or take out. A visit to Temescal wouldn't be complete without a visit to the popular Bakesale Betty.
