Dear Friend of Higher Education:

 

I'd like to thank Sunbelt Broadcasting and Jim Rogers for their support by producing our latest public service announcement which hit the airwaves earlier this week. You can watch it here:

On Monday, March 21, our students will be taking their message about saving education and delivering it squarely  on the steps of our state capitol. I encourage you and your 437,000 best friends to add your voices to theirs. Below are details sent to me by our student leaders:

  • 8:00 a.m. - Public comment/testimony on higher education funding
    * Room 4100 of the State Capitol/Legislative Building in Carson City
    * Contact your student government president if you plan to testify  
  • 8:45 a.m. - Buses depart from the UNR campus
    * Meet at the Plaza in front of the Joe Crowley Student Union at 8:30 a.m.  
  • 10:00 a.m. - Students/participants assemble in front of Nevada State Capitol building
    * Speeches from student leaders
    * Performance by UNR Pep Band  
  • 10:30 a.m. - Students/participants enter State Capitol building to talk with legislators
    * Students/participants fill galleries for floor sessions, and fill hallways of the Legislature  
  • 11:00 a.m. - Floor sessions begin (both Assembly and Senate)  
  • 11:45 a.m. - Floor sessions conclude
    * Students/participants exit to rally site  
  • 12:00 p.m. - Rally begins
    * Speeches from student, community, and legislative leaders
    * Performance by joint UNR, TMCC, and WNC choir
    * UNR students are encouraged to stay, but have the option to return to Reno at Noon  
  • 1:00 p.m. - Rally concludes
    * UNR buses return to campus

BUS DETAILS
Faculty, Staff, Alumni, and Friends are welcome to ride the buses once all students have been accommodated. Confirm your attendance/spot on the bus here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6WRWDLP 
 
RALLY SIGNS
Protest signs are encouraged at the rally, but are not allowed inside the Legislature. Storage locations will be available outside the building to accommodate those with signs
 
A sign-making party will be held in room 323 of the Joe Crowley Student Union on Sunday, March 20th  from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
