The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Health Sciences System (HSS) announces the "special delivery" of two high-tech nursing education simulation manikins to Western Nevada College (WNC). The manikins are being donated by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and Nevada State College (NSC) nursing programs to help support the development of the WNC nursing program.

The two manikins to be delivered include an adult-sized SimManŽ or high-tech male manikin manufactured by Laerdal, which can simulate a multitude of medical ailments, and a woman manikin manufactured by Gaumard, which, complete with baby manikin, can simulate childbirth. The manikins will help enhance the learning experience for 85 first and second-year nursing students, as well as several classes which teach medical/surgical skills and maternal/child health at WNC.

Because of the high-tech, high-value nature of these manikins, Governor Gibbons' office and the Department of Transportation have offered their support to help transport this special cargo from Las Vegas to Carson City on a previously-scheduled flight on Wednesday, October, 27, 2010.  The media are invited to attend either the departure or arrival of this "special delivery," and talk with representatives from NSHE and the UNLV, NSC and WNC nursing programs to learn more about how the sharing of this essential equipment helps promote collaboration, efficiency and effectiveness of nurse training in Nevada.
  • 12:00 p.m. Las Vegas Departure:  The flight is scheduled to depart Las Vegas at approximately noon from the Quail Air Center, 155 E Reno Ave., Delta Drive Hangar #D3, at McCarran Airport.  The manikins will be loaded in the plane immediately prior to departure. Representatives from NSHE, UNLV and NSC will be available for comment.
  • 1:45 p.m. Carson City Arrival:  The flight is scheduled to arrive in Carson City at approximately 1:45 p.m. at the State of Nevada hangar at the Carson City Airport.  Representatives from NSHE and Western Nevada College will be available for comment.
