REGENTS MOURN LOSS OF 
JAMES "BUCKY" BUCHANAN, II

Las Vegas, Nevada - November 9, 2009
James "Bucky" L. Buchanan II, a two-term  member of the Nevada Board of Regents, died Saturday at the age of 74.
"We have lost a remarkable Nevadan and a true advocate for education," said James Dean Leavitt, chairman of the Nevada Board of Regents. "On behalf of the Board of Regents, I offer our heartfelt condolences to Bucky's family and friends. He will be missed."
 
Buchanan served on the Board of Regents from 1973-1976 and from 1977-1982. He served as chairman of the Board from 1975-1976 and from 1977-1978.
 
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas honored Buchanan, an avid swimmer and supporter of UNLV athletics, with the dedication of the Buchanan Natatorium on June 12, 1981.
