We are pleased to announce SNACK has been awarded a $25,000 Family Services Community 2011 Grant from Autism Speaks in support of the Expansion of ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Professional Support for SNACK Year-Round Socialization and Recreation Programs Project.

SNACK programs are designed and staffed to help our children make progress. We pride ourselves on never turning away a child, no matter how challenging their behavior, and use the principles of ABA to manage behavior and provide reinforcement. Running a program like SNACK demands a minimum of a two to one ratio of children to staff, and in some situations, it's one to one. For quality reasons, we allow no more than eight children per class.

The past two years have seen have seen a significant increase (35%) in the number of children participating in SNACK programs, with a 95% re-enrollment rate each year. To accommodate this growth and enable SNACK to serve more children with challenging behavioral issues, funding from Autism Speaks will help us increase the on-site hours of our ABA trained professionals to expand managing behavior plans; providing training to SNACK staff, offering support to families and interacting with the children's schools.

We are so grateful for the support of Autism Speaks. It is through partnerships such as this that we can continue SNACK's mission to ensure we provide our children with the help they need to thrive - the opportunity to develop skills, make progress, build confidence, spend time with their friends and have some fun - and provide our families with the support they need.

Sincerely,

Jackie Ceonzo

 Executive Director and Founder

SNACK's mission is to fill a void in the lives of children, ages 3-18, with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other developmental disabilities by providing after-school and weekend recreational programs designed and staffed to address their needs. At SNACK, children learn to participate in purposeful play and everyday childhood activities that don't come as easily to them as they do typical children.

SNACK programs are designed and staffed to address challenging behavioral issues, increase skill levels and promote improved social interaction. Our high ratio of student to staff (2:1); class size limit (maximum 8 per class); and use of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to manage behavior and provide reinforcement, and the staff's unique skill set, enables children who participate to make progress and have fun!
SNACK's activity centers are devoted to "Fun, Friends, and Hope" and welcomes those with physical disabilities, verbal and non-verbal language abilities, across all socio-economic, race, and ethnic backgrounds.
