Dear Friends
"Ministry is like a Rubik's Cube. One
square is communication, but other squares
consist of performance, entertainment, humor,
compassion, musical excellence, love for the
audience, servant hood, etc. Teaching young
ministers and musicians to hone their skills
in each of these categories in order to make
the puzzle pieces mesh will make for a more
effective Gospel presentation. Students with
the objective of ministering with the skills
of entertainment and communications are more
effective ambassadors for
Christ." The above paragraph states the reason for forming the Elijah Conference which will be held October 15 through 18, 2008, in Smyrna, TN. The conference will consist of a curriculum aimed at training Christian musicians to be better performers, communicators, and servants. Allison will hold several training sessions each day and will give hands-on instruction from a syllabus that she has created based on her many years of experience. There will also be daily seminars on subjects such as Establishing and Operating a Non-Profit Ministry, The Traveling Musician Through the Eyes of a Pastor, Marketing Your Ministry In Today's World, and Today's Audio Technologies. There is an early registration discount as well as discounts for those who wish to attend as a group in the form of a duet, trio or quartet. You can go to the policy page for more information. There is also a page where you may contribute toward a scholarship for a particular individual, or to a general fund for worthy applicants. If you or someone you know has a calling on their life to a Christian music ministry, this training will be very beneficial to their endeavor. Please consider this exciting event and feel free to contact us with any questions, or you can check out the FAQ page for more information.
We are very excited to announce a new web store for Allison's music! You will immediately notice a change in the look and feel of the store, in addition to several new features that we think you will enjoy. One such addition is that you are now able to download individual songs and accompaniment tracks. While you are looking around, make sure to check out "Heaven's Jubilee," a compilation of music made famous by the legendary Speer Family. This great new songbook features 160 songs in shaped note format, photos of the family down through the years, as well as a special forward by Bill Gaither and memories from Ben Speer, Rosa Nell Speer Powell, Mary Tom Speer Reid, and Faye Speer. We have also added a special 3-CD set consisting of 36 revival hymns & gospel songs. The set includes such standards as "Amazing Grace," "In The Sweet By And By," "Farther Along," "Heaven's Jubilee," "Palms Of Victory," "Down By The Riverside," "Keep On The Firing Line," and many others. Although Allison is not featured on these recordings, we know you will enjoy the great choir featured on this wonderful music. A special thanks to Chuck Johnston for the many hours he put into this project. As always, his efforts are greatly appreciated. (Last month's newsletter featured an article on Chuck and his beautiful wife, Bobbi.)
Following is a list of Allison's March 2008 dates. As always, while we realize that you might not be able to come to a church service or concert, we ask for your prayers for us while we're on the road. Thank you in advance and we pray God's blessings on you and your family.
