October 2006 The Home Temple / Wisdom Seminars Newsletter
Greetings!
This issue introduces you to our current Candidates for elevation to the Office of a Bishop (Episcopate), gives you information on our free teleconference scheduled for Thursday evening, October 26, and updates you on the JIVA program in Vedic Astrology.
FIVE PRIESTS NOMINATED TO THE EPISCOPATE
Presiding Bishop Lewis Keizer, M.Div., Ph.D.   Completing Academic and Spiritual Requirements for Consecration
Our Candidates for Consecration to the Episcopate are (from left to right, top row) Tofah Eileen, Daniel, and Edward; bottom row Marita and Luis. They have been nominated and approved by our Board of Bishops to be admitted as Bishops of the Home Temple Synod when they have completed their academic and spiritual episcopal training.

Qualifications for elevation to the Office of a Bishop as a member of the Home Temple Synod of Bishops include: A minimum of two years in service as a Home Temple Priest; The Home Temple B.D. Degree, which is earned by completing the online YESHUA Seminar; The Home Temple M.Div. or D.D. Degree, which is also completed online through www.wisdomseminars.org; Successful completion of THG First Order Empowerments, which requires about thirteen months.

A Bishop of the Home Temple Synod carries all Apostolic Authority and is fully independent. However, Home Temple Bishops agree to the following things as members of the Synod: To participate in the annual Synod meeting of Bishops (first week of July) either in person or by conference telephone; To require their clergy-in-training to complete Diaconate and Priesthood modules through the Home Temple Seminary as a requirement for Ordination, in addition to whatever other training they might create or assign as Bishops; To Ordain new clergy in their geographical areas who have completed Home Temple Seminary training either on behalf of the Presiding Bishops, who will continue to mentor them, or to accept and mentor them as their own clergy; To oversee their own clergy (Deacons, Priests, and those they may have brought into Minor Orders) to ensure that the Home Temple Code of Ethics is not being violated; To serve on an Ecclesiastical Court chaired by a Presiding Bishop if it is ever necessary to investigate and decide on written charges that have been made against one of their own clergy. Bishops of the Synod also have the right to incorporate their ministries as legal and legitimate Corporations Sole in most states. If they do so, they must designate a successor Bishop of the Synod.

Many independent churches with Apostolic Succession develop clergy only for Priesthood. Bishops cling to their unique ecclesiastical powers and few new Bishops are Consecrated. Once Consecrated, many new Bishops sever all ties with their Consecrators. This has not been the case with the Home Temple. Bishops of the Synod exercise their own unique and independent ministries, having often founded churches or spiritual communities long before Ordination to the Home Temple Priesthood. But they remain in close friendship and spiritual community as a collegial Synod of Bishops, just as the early Apostles did before the advent of church hierarchies. Once a year we convene in person or by teleconference to keep in touch, although most of us are in more frequent contact and work together on common projects. The link below takes you to the web page about our world-wide Synod of Bishops. By summer of 2007 you will probably be seeing photos of new Bishops there.

JIVA UPDATE
Entire First Year Program Now Online and Second Year Beginning
The full ten weekends of the first year Jyotish (Vedic Astrology) Diploma program are now online. After Dr. Willa Keizer had prepared students over six weekends with the knowledge and skills that Pandit Sanjay Rath had designated, the Guru himself came from India and presented the last six weekends of instruction. Above is a photo of Sanjay teaching a JIVA class. Sanjay also taught a weekend on Mantra and Saddhana, which will become part of the more advanced Second Year program.

JIVA, the Jagganath Institute of Vedic Astrology sponsored by the Home Temple School of Sacred Studies, offers serious spiritual students an opportunity to acquire proficiency in the profound depths of Jyotish tradition that have been hitherto unknown, untranslated, and unavailable to Westerners. And it offers this opportunity in easily understandable modalities that have never before been used. Well over 100 hours of instruction using Flash multimedia files of well-organized and entertaining PowerPoint presentations plus twelve class handbooks comprise the First Year Program, which leads to the Diplomate in Jyotish. But that is only step one. For real mastery, six years of instruction are planned. The Second Year program gets underway in 2007. Go to the JIVA web site by clicking on the photograph above for more information.
