Credit Card Program Among In-Plant's Responsibilities

 Sue Peck

Sue Peck

A growing number of shops are taking on responsibilities beyond traditional printing and mailing to support the changing needs of their parent organizations.

Sue Peck, Director of Office Services at Alfred University in New York, for example, manages not only the mail and printing operations, the campus photocopier fleet, the school's purchasing and bidding of merchandise/services over $1000, but also serves as the university's credit card program administrator. "I am responsible for the entire program which falls under the purchasing umbrella," she explains. "I issue the credit cards to individuals/departments, monitor purchases, set the purchasing limits and cancel the credit cards when card holders are no longer employed by the university."

In-Plant Finishes 2010 Up in Volume & Under Budget

Christopher Donlon

Christopher Donlon

"I was hopeful for a fair year, but after reviewing mid-year numbers, it did not look good," says Christopher Donlon, Kohler Co. Communications Leader - Printing Services. Donlon immediately met with his team, creating an action plan for growth in the 3rd and 4th quarters and got their buy-in.

"Working with our vendors for smarter prices, reducing shipping costs, finding new work and challenging ourselves, we finished the year on a stellar note!" Color volume finished the year up 2.4%, while monochrome volume was over 8% higher. *Volumes keep growing despite departmental budget reductions for 3 consecutive years. Donlon will share more of his success strategies at IPMA 2011.
