When Walter Ryan produced a brochure for Bangor, Maine's historic Preservation Program, he had no idea that the final product would be spotlighted in the local newspaper.

"For me this project was fun and a lot of hard work," Ryan explains. "The layout and design was probably the best I have done. I am a pressman by trade, and a designer by hobby and now by necessity and a little survival thrown into the mix." Part of the process required combing through a mountain of photos to showcase some of the more historic and well preserved homes and businesses in the area.
When selecting the color scheme for the committee's approval, Ryan chose colors that the city already uses on a regular basis, muting or softening them to give a more antique look. Mohawk Color Copy Paper was used which is 100% recycled chlorine-free.
Ryan emphasizes that the creation of the brochure was a team effort which included Sara Martin, the historian, who wrote the entire piece; Dan Wellington and Jeremy Martin, members of Code Enforcement; and the City's GIS Specialist Sean Gambrel. |
