The school convened a forum on "Integrated Care and Housing for Homeless Persons in Los Angeles" to increase understanding and identify key challenges and strategies for advancing and sustaining efforts to end homelessness in the region. Organized and led by professor Suzanne Wenzel, the forum, which was underwritten by Scott and Obaida Watt, featured City Councilwoman Jan Perry as the keynote speaker, as well as professors John Brekke and Larry Palinkas.  Read more

NEWS
The school has launched Military Behavioral Health: An International Journal of Research and Community Study, the first academic journal on the biopsychosocial health and well-being of service members, veterans and families impacted by military service. The journal, to be housed at the Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans and Military Families, addresses resiliency and transition issues. Read more

This past semester, a group of MSW students analyzed the Los Angeles Opportunities Industrialization Center's Computers for Families program, which puts computers and Internet access in homes and provides computer literacy training to residents of the Jordan Downs public housing complex -- an effective way to get students involved in local initiatives while doing a good deed.  Read more

Dean Marilyn Flynn has received the International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award from the National Association of Social Workers Foundation for her efforts to advance the public image of professional social work. She has been at the helm of many firsts, including establishing the school's military social work program and launching the first national web-based MSW program at a major research university.
