PLL Sponsored Education Programming Ranks Higher Than AALL annual conference programming
The six programs that PLL sponsored against AMPC programming (which included eight programs AMPC approved from PLL submissions) at the recent AALL Annual Meeting in Philadephia, received an overall raking of 3.51% with 4% being the highest score. In contrast, to 3.43% for the AMPC programs. Also, interesting to note is that almost 60% of AALL members do not complete the AALL education program surveys.

Annual Meeting Consultants Report Published by AALL
The recent release of a consultant's report providing recommendations to AALL to improve the Annual meeting experience may be of concern to Special Interest Groups such as PLL and could impact your conference experience. For example, while the consultant's report recommends continuing the PLL Summit as a preconference, they recommend discontinuing SIS education and meeting programming during the annual conference.
Read the report for yourself and draw your own conclusions. You can see the report of the outside consultants hired by AALL to evaluate the Annual Meeting at Tab 1 in the Fall 2011 Board Book .
We are fortunate that Diane Rodriguez, a PLL member who serves on the AALL Board has been appointed Chair of committee to review the report and provide recommendations to the AALL Board for implementation. Deborah Russin, PLL Secretary and AALL Board members was also appointed to the Committee. Please be sure to share your thoughts and comments with them or Jennifer Berman and Caren Biberman, the PLL Education Committee Co-Chairs.

PLL Membership Committee
"The newly-formed PLL Membership Committee headed by co-Chairs Lynn Merring and Linda-Jean Schneider is planning to execute several initiatives to solicit new members, as well as to combine efforts with the PLL Media/PR Committee to promote Member activities. How can YOU help?
- Let us know when you change positions or locations, so we may contact you. This 'column' will also announce those changes when appropriate.
- Promote the PLL SIS to your colleagues in your position and local chapter to those already belonging to AALL without selecting an SIS, OR who are just joining AALL. There has been increased activity within the Section, thanks to the continuous efforts of Chair Steve Lastres and the PLL Board, and we have the excellent Resource Guides to identify our priorities and capabilities.
- If you are members of other professional associations, such as ALA, LMA, SLA, be a source of referral to colleagues who could benefit from PLL Membership.
The Committee will be following-up with AALL with regard to the Membership Survey they just issued, so watch for that information. Feel free to make suggestions and recommendations to our efforts. |
PLL-Knowledge Management Group Discussion on Work Product Repositories
The KM Sub-Group met on November 17, 2011 to discuss work product and precedent repositories. Over 20 members called in for the hour long discussion and several members actively participated reporting on their firms practices and plans for the future. The discussion centered around best practices for creating and maintaining work product repositories and the challenges in keeping these repositories maintained effectively. The discussion also touched on how enterprise search may impact work product projects. Some on the call thought enterprise search may make work product databases obsolete with KM teams focusing more on search and less on organizing work product. To learn more about the discussion you can view the meeting notes in the PLL-KM Community library section where meeting notes and a schedule of upcoming KM calls and webinars are posted.
Upcoming Schedule
- February 16th @ 3:00 pm EST (webinar: Libraries & KM: Taming the KM Monster, repeat of Internet Librarian 2011 presentation by Camille Reynolds & Jaye Lapachet)
- April 12th @ 3:00 pm EST (webinar: Trendy Gadgets & Apps by Barbara Fullerton)
- May 17th @ 3:00 pm EST (regular discussion call)
