April Guest Speaker:
AlexSandra Lett
Writer*Speaker*Storyteller*Consultant
A series of challenges served as a wake-up call and evoked a major reassessment that led AlexSandra to transform her life. While redefining her career and life she wrote about her experiences and epiphanies in a journal, and an idea for a book evolved. Eventually she released all professional activities, and in 1998, left her spacious house in suburbia and retreated to a small cabin in the woods, situated on a large body of water she later named Paradise Pond. She was determined to honor the deepest desire of her heart: to write books.
The result was a manuscript titled Going Crazy...Getting Sane, An Awakening at Paradise Pond, a book about outer revolution and inner revelation, about discovery and recovery. Due to the recommendations of a literary agent, AlexSandra is currently rewriting this true story as a novel.
In spring 2000 AlexSandra started writing a weekly column in a newspaper located in Wilmington, NC. The first installment of "Lett It All Hang Out," called Set a Spell at Grandpa's Country Store, was met with rave reviews from readers and led to numerous other articles. Today she writes a nostalgia column Lett's Set a Spell and articles for various publications and websites.
The popularity of this column led to the publication of a book titled A Timeless Place, Lett's Set a Spell at the Country Store in November 2000. In seeking her unique voice as a writer and her power as a person AlexSandra has come to understand the strength in honoring one's roots. In this book she guides readers to an awakening about the true meaning of home and family.
Through her company Southern Books & Talks AlexSandra publishes books and presents programs on a variety of Timeless Topics. As a writer and as a speaker AlexSandra's intention is to express her creativity and to help others discover passion and purpose in their work and meaning in every aspect of their lives. She also offers consulting to clients on various aspects of life purpose, publishing, and communications.
She will speak on "Tools for Thriving". It will be a motivation for boosting productivity, energy and how to reduce stress in the work place. She will also have books for sale.

President's Message:
Oh...what to our wondering eyes should appear, but hundreds of women sporting huge smiles and ABWA gear...
That was the scene when we arrived in Cary, NC for the ABWA 2012 Eastern Regional Conference. Over two days, we were recognized for our accomplishments, gained important skills that can take our careers to the next level and participated in networking events to futher our professional circles and had fun while doing it all.
At a District or National conference you can dig deep into your personal learning style and find what works for you both personally and professionally. For example, the "Secrets to Creative and Sustaining an Energized, Engaged, and Effective Workplace" presented by Robin White, wowed the participants with her training and stories. Her humor and wit kept us engaged as we learned valuable principles that empowered, rejuvenated and inspired all.
Thank you to Sky-Hy members Lucretia Piercy, Margie Presley, Randye Unsell, Sue Stewart, and Randye Worth for joining me at District this year. Together we gleaned new insights into how to continue to grow our chapter. Saturday's presentation by Kelly McDonald "Marketing, Branding & Advertising: What They Are & How They Differ" brought to light the key emotional drives of the Matures, Boomers, Gen X and Gen Y and how being aware can affect our lives.
Learning is a never ending journey. ABWA Sky-Hy Chapter offers an opportunity each month to broaden your professional network and learn from others in varied industries who share common goals. One of the major benefits to your membership is the ability to speak openly and candidly about business issues with others who can offer valuable perspective. By giving away your knowledge, expertise and point-of-view, you position yourself as an expert. We are dedicated to your success, member to member, with each encounter. Receiving a gift makes us happy not only because we are glad to have the gift, but even more, because we know that someone loved us in the giving. Reach out and share all the gifts ABWA has to offer by inviting a friend or co-worker to join us at the Spring Membership Event on May 10th. Come one, come all~Pamela Pistor
He who gives, teaches me to give.

Vice President's Message:
Spring has certainly sprung in the mountains!
I recently had the windows open at home and heard the birds chirping, wind chimes ringing, and the smell of freshly cut grass. I took a deep breath, and embraced every one of my 5 senses I experienced at that given time. Don't you love when something can electrify you, and jolt back that energy or excitement you may have lost during the winter months?
I consider ABWA as the organization that electrifies me the same way a spring breeze does. ABWA as a national organization, and our Sky-Hy chapter provides to me everything I need to move my senses. I see a group of women whom are successful and full of ambition. Throughout our monthly chapter and board meetings, I hear inspirational stories from our visitors and vocational speakers. I am touched with the many hugs I receive each time we gather together. The smells of the flowers presented to our new members during our induction ceremonies. Finally, the taste of the delicious food provided to us by the Crowne Plaza during our chapter meetings, embark my nose and my stomach. Just how does ABWA enhance your senses? See you Thursday! Brooke Stambersky
