The honey's sweet, and so are you
Thou are my love and I am thine

And Fortune said it shou'd be you.

I joined in 1986!  My main goal was to meet new people, since I was new to the area.  I have stayed because of the great friends and wonderful professional sisterhood that are there for me, and I for them all throughout the years.  Reaching and growing both professionally and personally has been the gift that ABWA Sky-Hy Chapter goes on giving.  Raising scholarship monies for local students in need is the icing on the cake!

February Guest Speaker

Haley Donaldson, Community Health Coordinator, is a member of the Park Ridge Wellness team and serves as Kid Power Coordinator and Nutritionist.  Haley holds a bachelors degree from North Carolina State University in Nutrition Science and Biological Sciences and a Professional Science Masters in Nutrition through North Carolina State University's distance education program.  In addition to working with Park Ridge Health's community programs, Haley has worked with the ENERGIZE! Program at Wake-Med and the Poe Center for Health Education in Raleigh, NC.  Haley serves the community by volunteering with Girls on the Run, Trips for Kids, WNC and United Way of Henderson County.

She will be bringing in the "Tantia Body Composition Analysis Machine"  It will tell us how much fat, water and muscle we have in our bodies and how much we burn our calories.  We will all be able to participate in with this machine.  We will begin doing these at 5:30 so that everyone has a chance to be analyzed.  There will be a print out of our status, and she will go over the meaning of these printouts.

    President's Message:

February is Heart Awareness month.... and Valentine's Day. Most people think of Valentine's Day as the highlight of the month. Showing someone you care with extra LOVE and attention is Hallmark's main marketing goal for this holiday.

In ABWA we are dedicated to showing that same kind of LOVE and special attention to our members, not just in February, but all year. There are many ways we help members define career goals, celebrate individual accomplishments, and encourage growth in both professional and personal lives. WIN, the number one tool that belongs to each of us as a member of ABWA, motives us to achieve our goals by helping ourselves and those we care about, to be the best at what we do.  Achievements anchor us by showing what we are capable of accomplishing. Realizing that goals provide us with the motivation to succeed, are you setting your goals to help yourself and others?

Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women, according to the American Heart Association. More women die of this silent, hidden and misunderstood disease than all forms of cancers combined.  Our guest speaker, Haley Donaldson, will arm us with valuable information and enable us to reach out and touch someone during this Heart Awareness Month by motivating them and ourselves to stay heart healthy. Set a goal to make one small change that can add years to your life and those you LOVE and care about.

Vice President's Message:
Brooke
"When in doubt wear red." --Bill Blass

February is the month of love, passion, and the color red in honor of Valentine's Day. Did you know that the color red encourages action and confidence, and is known as the color for beauty in many languages? It also increases enthusiasm, and is a sense of protection from fears and anxiety. It is certainly not a coincidence that our ABWA signature color is red. Our chapter is complete with women whom are passionate about their professional careers and goals, and also enthusiastic in supporting and encouraging one another in one another's professional endeavors.

As our group prepares for our upcoming fundraiser in March, please use the color red within you to spread to other women your passion for this organization, scream it from the rooftop ladies, "I LOVE ABWA!!" Encourage potential members that our chapter not only provides members with the ability to exchange career focused business knowledge, but also confidence within oneself and friendships. Let's share our chapter's strength, charisma, and our color red!

Brooke
Mark your calendars
