Ossa Carne by Dome Bulfaro translation into English by Cristina Viti (dot.Com Press - Le Voci della Luna, 2012) "(...)And so we find in these pages the body voyaging from death to life, a return journey towards a carnality understood with full awareness. Starting from the impossibile image of the skeletons of a man and a woman who during their lives have carved inscriptions into their own bones (signifying not sterile self-absorption but the acute awareness that every experience deeply marks bodily structure), we come face to face with a body living through various states: a body rebelling against itself, broken down into warring systems and tissues, sworn to self-destruction; but also a body of light, infused with love & compassion & thus able to restore the world, a body playing with its own form & shamanically dreaming itself free of male & female valency, finding the key to the integrity of the self in the voice & its song. (..)" from Translator's Note (Cristina Viti).
Born in Bordighera in 1971 and living in Monza, Dome Bulfaro is a poet, performer, artist and teacher.

Carmenta is a unique project and the first of its kind. The project has taken on the themes from the annual global Italian cultural festival, La Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo. This annual festival is designed and promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to celebrate Italians and Italian language and culture throughout the world. The 2012 theme is L'Italia e i territori, l'Italia del futuro ( Italy and territories, Italy of the future).
Over 20 professional writers of Australian Italian background actively engaged in Australia's literature, theatre and arts environment have been invited to explore and expand for Carmenta on the theme of "La Settimana" with writing related to fragments, nets, centres, borders, provinces, lifestyles, nature, environment, space. Contributors to Carmenta include: Archimede Fusillo, Kavisha Mazzella, Venero Armanno, Joe Dolce, Elly Varrenti, Anna Maria dell'Oso, Rosanna Licari, Enza Gandolfo and many more.

The mother-daughter relationship is a popular theme in contemporary Italian writing but has never before been analysed in a comprehensive book-lenght study. In Corporeal Bonds, Patrizia Sambuco analyses novels by authors such as Elsa Morante, Francesca Sanvitale, Mariateresa Di Lascia, and Elena Ferrante, each of which is narrated from the daughter's point of view and depicts the daughter's bond with the mother.
Highlighting the recurrent images throughout these works, Patrizia Sambuco traces these back to alternative forms of communication between mother and daughter, as well as to the female body. The author also explores the attempts of the daughter-narrators to define a female self that is outside the constrictions of patriarchal society. Through these investigations, Corporeal Bonds identifies a strong connection between the ideas of post-Lacanian critical theorists, Italian feminist thinkers, and the stories within the novels.
Patrizia Sambuco is a lecturer in Italian Studies in the School of Languages, Cultures, and Linguistics at Monash University. She joined Monash University in 2011 after having taught in UK at the University of St Andrews and previously at the University of Bristol On the occasion Associate Prof Rita Wilson, Head, School of Languages Cultures and Linguistics at Monash University will give a brief introduction.

15 - 29 September 2012 at His Majesty's Theatre (825 Hay Street, Perth) Since it was first published in 1883, Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio has captivated and influenced generations of young people with its moral tale about a little wooden puppet who is naughty, mischievous and daring, and faces many challenges along the road towards becoming human. Pinocchio is fashioned in the workshop of the craftsman Gepetto. He sets out on a journey and has many great adventures: he is suckered by a scheming fox and cat, led to a seductive toy land where boys are turned to donkeys, befriended by the blue fairy and swallowed by an enormous shark. When he lies, his nose grows. It takes an act of great courage and selflessness for Pinocchio to finally become a real boy. There is a strong tradition of artists giving Collodi's heartwarming story, with its universal themes and colourful characters, new life. It was a huge success in 1883 and this bold interpretation by Ivan Cavallari and Edoardo Sanchi will captivate a new generation of youngsters - and the not so young!

Pantalone's Inn is a hilariously entertaining show for kids (and big kids too) based on the Italian Comedy of the 16th Century, Commedia dell'arte. This performance is in English and features the traditional masked characters of the commedia.
Audiences will be transported to the Italian city of Bologna, the home of Bolognese sauce! Laugh-out-loud at loads of silly slapstick, misunderstandings and bad wigs! Pantalone's Inn is knee-slapping funny and molto delizioso - not to be missed!
Admission: $15
