Holiday Gift Project

Campbell's employees working hard to help provide gifts to children served by CFS!-2010 Holiday Gift Project

Participate in Center For Family Services' Holiday Gift Project and bring the joy of the holidays to children and teens in need. Gifts are specifically picked out for individual children, so they receive exactly what they asked for, sometimes for the first time in their lives.

Sponsor a child and receive their wish list, organize a neighborhood or office collection of new gift items, or simply donate a gift for an individual. Gift cards for teens, warm coats, and baby gifts are always needed.

CFS Expands Services

Center For Family Services was awarded competitive federal funding from the Office of Head Start to provide early education services to 865 children in part of Camden City and Camden County. We are honored and excited to build a strong foundation for learning and long term success for each young child that attends Head Start. CFS will assume full operations of Head Start in five locations in Camden City and nine locations in Camden County as of December 1, 2011.

Community Giving Connection

newmans ownNewman's Own Foundation awarded Center For Family Services with a $2,500 grant. The donation will benefit CFS' Quixote Quest program.

Thanks to our partners in the Camden Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood who have committed over $1.6M of cash and in-kind support to the children and families of the Cooper Lanning community. We will be working this year and for many years in the future towards the goal of ensuring that every child in our neighborhood has the educational, social, and community supports they need to make it to college and beyond.

Program: SERV

Why You Volunteer:

I completed the SERV training because it was required for my job but after going out on a few calls it made me feel fulfilled. Here I am three years later. I also volunteer because I enjoy being able to have a positive influence on individuals lives.

Favorite part of volunteering:

My favorite part of volunteering is being able to help individuals in a time of crisis. It's always rewarding knowing I've assisted someone in their time of need.

What have you learned from your time at CFS:

I have become more empathetic, nonjudgmental, and have the ability to function calmly in several high risk situations. Also, I have come in contact with several great people at volunteer meetings and events.

Check back next month for another volunteer highlight from a different program at CFS!

Camden Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood Highlights

The Camden Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood team is diving into the 2011-2012 academic school year! With the helpful coaching of representatives from the American Reading Company and the dedication of volunteers, the CCLPN was able to host a successful Reading Blitz on Friday, October 7th at Lanning Square Family School. Students were able to read with adult volunteers one-to-one, receiving necessary guidance and undivided attention.

The monthly Reading Blitzes are a wonderful way to engage with the students and promote a love and understanding of reading. These events will be one of many CCPLN efforts to ensure that all Cooper Lanning students are successful in school and go to college, whatever it takes! The next Reading Blitz is scheduled for October 28th.

Camden Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood is collaborating with community leaders and organizations to coordinate community dinners. Community Dinners will be a monthly opportunity for residents Cooper Lanning and members of the Lanning Square Family School community to indulge in spaghetti dinner with family members and neighbors as well as partake in open discussion regarding residential needs. Community dinners will also promote a deepening of relationships within families, among families and between families and the local community. Cooper Lanning residents will be responsible for setting the agenda of the monthly community dinners and determining essential topics for discussion. CCLPN encourages all members of Cooper Lanning and LSFS communities to attend the community dinners and provide the CCLPN team with valuable feedback and opinions.

Through collaborations with our community partners, the Camden Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood will be able this year to provide much needed services to residents including:PN Np Border

  • Eye screenings for children in grades 4-8 at LSFS
  • Health screenings
  • Book giveaways
  • After school and summer programs at LSFS for the neighborhood.
  • Saturday mentoring programs
  • College access programs
  • Neighborhood gardening projects

The Camden Cooper Lanning Promise Neighborhood team is committed to building a cohesive community of residents, organizations and educational institutions. With support and guidance from the CCLPN team, the community of Cooper Lanning can be a haven for its children and residents to thrive!

Program Highlight: Tranquility House

Center For Family Services is excited to announce the opening of Tranquility House, a program focused on providing safe and supportive housing to youth in southern New Jersey. Tranquility House, a Supervised Transitional Living Program (STLP), opens its doors to young ladies age 16-20 with the goal of building the foundation for independent living.

The length of stay is 6-18 months in a home-like setting where young ladies live on their own with guidance from caring and supportive staff. Successful completion of the program prepares residents for independent living and through the program residents receive assistance with obtaining their own housing.
