                      Quest for Balance

   "Ultra Balance" the newest shampoo bar sensation from JR LIGGETT'S is a fabulous product that we are very proud to bring to market and we know that many of our faithful users will love it.
 
The word balance was chosen to describe it because it is the optimum condition or state that we strive for. JR LIGGETT'S Ultra Balanced Bar effectively cleans and conditions the hair and skin for people of all hair types because we add as an important primary ingredient, jojoba oil to our formulation. Jojoba oil is truly amazing in that it effectively conditions hair and skin whether you naturally have dry or oily hair. It can just naturally do this because of it's unique properties.
 
Balance is the sweet spot between two or more opposing forces or elements, and such it is with our new shampoo bar. A formulation can not be too harsh, too mild - too acidic, too alkaline - too high or low a pH, also other considerations like fragrance or no fragrance must be approached when you create a shampoo like this. We wanted it simple, a shampoo that would work for all hair types.
 
In effect balance is a state of true harmony where something is able to fully utilize the energy and beauty of diverse forces. With all opposites like ying & yang, work & play, elation & somberness, intensity & rest, love & hate, hot & cold, hard & soft, the true beauty of each force can only be fully appreciated when equilibrium is achieved. That's perfect balance, that is what we have achieved with our new bar.
 
As in life we find ourselves continually bombarded by many diverse tugs and pulls, attractions and repulses. To fully actualize our existence we are compelled to make numerous decisions. So it is in choosing just the right items to put into a formulation and what to omit. The basis for this decision making process is driven by what you want to achieve. Sometimes you've just gotta take charge... We've noticed from some of your comments that JR's products are a bit difficult to locate, and you're not pleased with that. In fact, some of you are actually a tad miffed, and we can't blame you for feeling that way--we feel the same way too! Oh sure, they're readily accessible on line, no problem there, but what about finding them when you're out and about doing your food shopping, running errands, or just looking for a unique, special, and environmentally friendly gift? Wouldn't finding JR's product line, especially his fantastically popular shampoo bar conveniently located on the shelves of stores you shop at everyday, be a great concept? I mean, it sounds like a no-brainer, right?

 
Well, here's the Battle Cry... Here's the Call to Arms (so to speak): "We won't be a victim anymore!" We refuse to be held hostage to what 'They' think we should be buying, and wimp out by settling for, "I'm sorry, we don't carry that product."


JR LIGGETT'S shampoo bar is an all around, top to bottom, can't be beat, hands down, 'bar-none' wonder and your favorite retailer doesn't carry it? Is this acceptable? Is this American? We think not! Now, I know you're not scratching your heads and saying, What to do? What to do?" You're smarter than that, but I'm still going to give you some ideas, because, well... because I like to give advice. Especially good advice. Even at that, we need you. We need ALL of you... every one of you who has ever purchased JR's shampoo bar, who has ever given it as a gift, who has ever received it as a gift, used it, wanted to use it, read about it, swiped it from a friend's shower, or even admired it from afar... now is the time to act.

It can be this simple... you can start out with one basic question directed to that employee who asks if you need any help or if they could direct you to a certain product. You, feigning innocence, ask, "Could you please tell me where to find JR LIGGETT'S shampoo bar?" They, with a blank look on their face, will be momentarily puzzled, and then will began searching the aisle looking for the product. You'll be describing the unique packaging, that it's made in the USA, that it's been around for years. Finally, while looking apologetically at you, you hear that tired, old refrain... "I'm sorry, I guess we don't carry that product..." These should be fighting words to the shampoo bar obsessed!

You see, we're going to start a revolution here, but a peaceful one... maybe even a stubborn one---one where we stand our ground for what we want. We are going to march into our local Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Sprouts, and Mother's Markets and while we fill the cart, we're going to be asking for J.R.'s products. When we select our fishing gear and outdoor supplies at Bass Pro Shops, REI, LL Bean,or EMS, we'll demand to know where J.R.'s products are. At Cabella's, we'll whip out our 'ammo' ('The Question') and make them squirm... when we hear that old refrain, we're going to raise our eyebrows in disbelief and astonishment and then directly and enthusiastically launch into why they should carry JR LIGGETT'S shampoo bar and body products. We're going to tell them how we love the products, what they do for us, how great they are, and why their store should carry them. We can have an empty shampoo bar wrapper handy, or simply jot down the web site and hand it to the manager.

But don't stop there... no... we're going to get bold and brazen here. Take it to the top...to the Big Kaunas. In this day and age, with our current economy, and the abundance of purchasing options out there, and the Power of the People (you), the Big Guys have to listen to us. It just makes cents--and dollars--mucho dollars. Never before have customers had such power to change the way a company does business. Embrace your Inner Rebel!

And don't forget the small stores. Your local grocery, the Mom and Pop stores, beauty supply stores, country supply stores, gift shops... anywhere you shop, locally or otherwise. Tell your favorite retailer about the product and ask them to carry it. Tell them why you love it and why you know others will love it too. And as you travel, tell the shop owners in the tourist hot spots about J.R.'s shampoo bar. Let's get Jim's awesome products into the hands, camps, airline carry-ons and bathrooms all across the land--and the world! Let freedom ring!

Now is not the time to be shy... I would imagine that after only a few requests for J.R.'s shampoo bar were heard, a store owner or 'Corporate' would experience a light bulb moment and realize that this might be something to check out. After all, the stores are in business to meet your needs! No brick and mortar location? Phone 'em! Send an e-mail to Customer Service and request J.R.'s products! Let's get a 'mass-emailing' campaign started here! Let's crash the system with our requests!  Grab your friends and fellow shampoo bar converts and spread the message! We can do it! Charge!

uch attention is given to a balanced diet, eating foods that provide the necessary nutrients, and preparations that are both tasty and preserve the value of our foods.

Many Americans are quite health and food conscious, yet there is an awareness within the medical community that the daily requirements for the vitamins and minerals that we need daily are often not met by the food choices we make.  The orthopedic surgeons are seeing more people with osteoporosis and the fractures that accompany that condition.  Treatment is not just for the injury but also provides counseling on prevention.  
 
 The daily requirement for Calcium and Vitamin D is necessary not only for bone health, but many other organ systems. All through life, these basic nutrients are essential for everyday metabolism. Different age groups and gender demand more or less daily intake, but the basic needs are barely met by the routine diet in the US.  It is recommended that people have  the equivalent of 4 glasses of milk for the calcium, and some exposure to the sun for the vitamin D.   For many reasons a large number of people do not get this.  Therefore, the easy solution is to get the required amount by taking a Calcium/Vit D supplement: taking a supplement twice a day will provide appropriate amounts and permit the absorption.  Most important is for the adults to make sure our young folks are also getting the correct amount: to avoid bone problems in mid-age, putting the calcium in the 'bone bank' during youth and adolescence will pay 'dividends' later in life.
 
At the same time we are making sure we have proper Calcium, we should also be aware that many minerals are not taken in sufficient quantities: Zinc and Selenium for example are needed for proper organ function but also for our hair!  So lets feel good AND look good: obtain a multi vitamin and mineral supplement that has the full compliment of what our bodies need, and continue to eat well and stay healthy.

 Why?


We now live in a world that is so fast paced and changing daily. Changing from anything we once recognized and claimed as our own, to something that seems to be way out of control by anyone. Way strange, void of the familiar, what we once thought to be a time eternal way of life is now vanishing before our very eyes. 

The landmarks of our life are now taking on new meaning. Once you worked for maybe one, maybe as many as 5 different companies in a lifetime. Once upon a time everyone had a house, had a job, had children, ate dinner together, took vacations, had family outings, picnics.

Our world has been set upside down, where nothing resembles what it was. Like our lives were a ball of clay being reformed into an unfamiliar unrecognizable object. That is what life now feels like for so many people in this nation, in this world.

Politics, finance, private corporations, the very cornerstones of our society are in chaos with no apparent regard for the long lasting consequences of their actions. Like the enormous  oil spill now gripping this nation, it is the largest single environmental disaster we have ever had to come face to face with and it is changing and extinguishing so many ways of life all by itself.  All in the quest for more of the life-blood of the world that pumps through every vein of society in so many forms. Most of which are toxic threat to human life.

Did you know that most all liquid shampoos today are made using oil by-products like sodium laurel sulfate the principle detergent in most all liquid shampoos, toothpastes, liquid soaps, and even the bubble baths you bath your babies and children in. It has literally crept into every crack and crevice of modern society and the products they use.

JR LIGGETT'S long ago took a very firm stance against using anything related to petroleum oil in any of our products. We use only oils from seeds grown on our planet, sustainable oils that are harvested and eaten by people to promote their health, their existence, and their way of life.

A couple of years ago I got a letter from a little old lady in Wisconsin who said she didn't have very much money and lived on a fixed income. She could not afford much beyond the daily necessities of life, but she said, "I buy your shampoo which for me is a luxury item. It is a small thing, but just for a moment I can feel that I am treating myself to something special, something that I look forward to. One little moment just for myself".

I think for most people, the act of taking a shower or bath by nature is a very personal and private thing. It is not selfish or possessive, just a time when one can be all by themselves. To drop for a moment all the cares and stresses outside the shower curtain and just relax and pamper yourself and make yourself feel good, a real rejuvenation process. And yes I can fully understand how the little lady from Wisconsin found such pleasure and gratification in a simple little shampoo bar.

This is the "why" for me. What makes it all worthwhile. If I can change even one person's life and make it a little bit better, help them through the day, than this is what makes my world go round. We do not use "petroleum oil" in any of our products; we use completely renewable and edible natural vegetable oils, the type of oils that were designed to sustain and nourish the human body.

Joy wrote a piece up above this one that asks you to rally, to march into local stores and ask for and request the stores to stock our products. I am asking you to tell your family and friends, order a spare bar for a friend or family member. Our shampoo truly makes our world a better place to live.
