New Announcement - 2012 Year-End Updates for SL 7.0 Customers

By popular request, Microsoft has recently updated its policy and will now be providing a 2012 Year-End Update to all U.S Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 Customers who are on SL 7 SP3 or SL 7 SP4. Microsoft will also provide U.S. tax table updates in December for the 2013 Payroll reporting year for SL 7 (SP3 and SP4). Following these releases, no additional code update will be released for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7, due to end of Mainstream Support in the Support Lifecycle for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7. Technical support for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7 will continue to be provided through the Extended Support phase which will end on 10/10/2017. If you are currently using Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0, you must upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011 to receive any further regulatory and or code updates following the December Tax Updates.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

FRx Goes Into Retirement and Management Reporter is Born

Beginning this month (April 1), existing SL customers that own FRx, will no longer be able to license additional FRx components. Customers with existing licenses for Microsoft FRx prior to April 1, 2012 may continue to use their Microsoft FRx but will no longer be able to purchase additional users.

Microsoft has replaced FRx with a new tool called "Management Reporter". This financial report writer looks just like FRx but has a more modern user interface, allows for "undo" with rows, columns and trees, and stores its data in SQL Server rather than in Access.  There is a tool to convert all of your reports.  There is no need to upgrade from FRx to Management Reporter unless you are scheduling an upgrade or require more financial reporting users.

Questions? Check out this webinar, Microsoft Dynamics Webcast: Management Reporter 101 for Microsoft Dynamics SL to get all the details or contact us for more information.

Sales Tax Audits & Exemption Certificates - Is Your Business at Risk?

Avalara Logo

Many companies are learning the hard way that their manual sales tax management processes for calculating sales tax and managing exemption certificates puts them at greater risk for negative audits. Are your manual, error-prone sales tax compliance processes putting you at risk?

Many businesses have exemption certificates spread far and wide across their company. This can make it difficult to identify, find and verify that you have obtained the correct certificate for a customer's purchase, and if you have incorrect data it can put you at risk for audit penalties. Additionally, billing errors from improper application of non-tax status, lost certificates, failure to produce a certificate during an audit and expired certificates that don't get renewed in time for transactions are common problems. However, Avalara's AvaTax Certs solution, that can automate your exemption certificate lifecycle and take the headache out of manual processes for you!

Learn more about how you can eliminate your risk by automating your entire sales tax process by contacting us or attending an upcoming Avalara webcast here.

SL Tip of the Month - Dynamics SL Quick Query Enhancement

Have you been experiencing slow response times in any of the queries available in the new Quick Query data browsing tool? By default Quick Query returns all of the records associated with the underlying query, so for large record sets (like GL transactions or A/R transactions), Microsoft has added a new feature for providing "Pages" of data, which can greatly improve the performance of the Quick Query tool. Once this feature is enabled, performance is improved, as only the specified number of records is returned per page.

To enable this new feature, a simple setting needs to be turned on (it is off by default). Click here to get all the details.
