ERP in the Cloud | |
There are many benefits that moving to the cloud brings any business. It is no longer necessary for a software applicati on that a business runs to be subject to the constraints of a limited in house infrastructure. Gone are the problems of the past related to only being able to access the program in the office, constant maintenance, and installation issues. Customers now have access to all their mission critical software from anywhere with seamless integration to all their other related software and applications all accessed from a single sign on screen.
The main attraction of cloud-based ERP solutions is cost savings and a predictable level of cost on a monthly basis. Hosted ERP solutions give IT departments the flexibility to replace on-premise servers with a hosted equivalent, ultimately helping to reduce the costs incurred in managing their solution. Therefore it's important that such an effort actually leads to cost savings.
With Microsoft Dynamics enterprise resource planning (ERP) offerings, customers now have a choice of on-premise deployment, cloud-based solutions, or a combination of the two.
While Microsoft is currently offering clients the ability to run the software in a hosted environment, we do believe that Microsoft Dynamics GP hosted makes sense for organizations that are severally understaffed in the IT area. However, based on the clients we have seen running in hosted environments, the performance of the solution when running offsite has not been as good as having the solution run onsite. But stay tuned! We see this changing when Microsoft comes out with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2012 next year, and that may be the time for some to potentially consider running the software off-premise. |

Walker Methodist Improves Efficiency with Microsoft Dynamics GP

Client Background:
Walker Methodist, a nonprofit organization founded in 1945 that serves seniors throughout the Twin Cities with senior housing communities, assisted living, skilled nursing, transitional care, and rehabilitation therapy.
Solution:
Walker Methodist was running outdated accounting software which was difficult to maintain and keep up with newer operating systems, and Boyer & Associates implemented Microsoft Dynamics GP.
Benefits:
The new solution implemented by Boyer offers real-time access to accurate financial information, greater operational efficiencies, and deeper insight into the organization's financial reporting. Unlike the old system, the organization can now handle all of its accounting from one solution. "Before upgrading, we used two separate systems and databases, and could not share vendor data across multiple entities. Now we can access the data needed across the entire organization which has reduced many operational inefficiencies," said Mark Strzyzewski, IT Director at Walker Methodist.
The organization has also improved financial reporting which has been an enormous advantage for them. "We can roll-up our financial reports and share the data much better via a web portal and drill-down functionality which has given our team the visibility they need to do their jobs more efficiently," he added.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Tip of the Month
Using SmartList Builder in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010
Microsoft Dynamics GP SmartLists have always enabled users to organize and display data from the accounting system in a way that makes sense to them, and users then search those records according to specific criteria. SmartList Builder in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2010 takes the popular, easy-to-use SmartList tool and increases its power and range. Now you can query more data in more ways, because SmartList Builder gives you access to all the information that you capture, enabling you to create your own custom SmartLists. With SmartList Builder, the possibilities are great, here are some examples:
ü You can combine multiple tables to go beyond basic SmartList data
ü You can create calculated fields
ü You can use more than four search criteria in restrictions
ü You can summarize data, group, count and total
ü You can create your own go-to's |
