Each month we will be sending out the e-version of the Focus to update you on events and activities that are upcoming in the Council. 
 
We also recommend that you place the Council Website in your favorites list.  We will be utilizing the site in conjuction with our e-newsletter to help provide information for you and your families.

2010 - 2011 Program Planning Conference
Program Planning 
Attention Unit Leaders and Committee Chairman.  Once again it is time to start planning for the next year of Scouting Adventures.  Please plan on joining us for our 2010 Program Planning Launch.  We will be gathering at Camp Mack on Thursday May 6th once again to learn how to plan your calendar, meet the leadership of our Program Support Committees, and learn of the exciting new line-up for Trail's End Popcorn.

The Lancaster Barnstomers recognized 113 Scouts who met the Barnstomers Challenge and sold $750 of popcorn in the 2009 fall sale.
those boys received 2 field box seats for a game in the upcomming 2010 season.

Scouting Recognizes Two Distinguished Citizens
 Annual Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner to be held.
 

This year we are pleased to announce that we will be recognizing Edward H. and Jeanne Arnold from Lebanon as our 2010 Distinguished Citizens.  Ed and Jeanne have had a tremendous impact on the Susquehanna Valley and provide need support to organizations such as Hershey Medical Center's Children's Hospital, a free health clinic in Lebanon City, Lebanon Valley College, and the Boy Scouts of America.

The Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner is a major fundraiser for the Pennsylvania Dutch Council, Boy Scouts of America, grossing over $100,000 in support of the programs of Scouting.  Companies and individuals will purchase tables and sponsorships

100th ANNIVERSARY COUNCIL RECOGNITION DINNER
Silver Beaver 2009 EAGLE SCOUTS AND ALL VOLUNTEERS REGISTER NOW!
 
The Pennsylvania Dutch Council, Boy Scouts of America will be holding its annual Recognition Dinner on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Eden Resort Inn & Conference Center located at 222 Eden Road, Lancaster, Pennsylvania (by Route 30 and 272 North-Oregon Pike).  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with dinner served at 7:00 p.m.
 
  A program will follow to honor all of the Eagle Scouts from the Class of 2009, as well as all of our Scouting volunteers.  Several outstanding adult Scouters will be presented with the Silver Beaver Medal, the highest honor that a council can bestow upon a volunteer. 
The cost to attend is $24.00 per person.  Friends and family of volunteers or honorees are invited to join in this special occasion as we celebrate Scouting's 100th anniversary!  We are currently looking for sponsors for this event.

Gathering of Eagle Scouts - July 17, 2010
The Pennsylvania Dutch Council will host its 100th Anniversary Gathering of Eagles at J. Edward Mack Scout Reservation.  This will be a time to recognize, reconnect and recommit to the Eagle Charge.  A special program including guest speaker, Distinguished Eagle Scout, John F. Pyfer, Jr. is planned.

Jamboree Bus Trip
Join us for an adventure of a lifetime where yesterday meets tomorrow at the 2010 National Jamboree. Experience the sights and sounds of more than 43,000 scouts in action.  Participants will have the opportunity to visit our Council Troops and see the many displays and activities throughout the jamboree.
 
  This will be the final jamboree at Fort AP Hill and promises to be the greatest scouting event of the last century.  Leave the driving to us and enjoy a day of fun!

All over the country, thousands of Scouts and Scouters are engaged in a "Year of Celebration," the Centennial Patch Program that recognizes youth AND adult participation in the 5 Core Areas of the scouting program: Community Service, Character, Leadership, Achievement, and the Outdoors.
 
 
 
Celebrating 100 Years - A Shining Light
  
For the first time in the history of the Boy Scouts of America, we will be bringing the entire Scouting community together for a single, nationwide event to celebrate our organization and reflect on what it has meant to millions of America's youth.

On Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 8 p.m. EST, the Scouting family - past, present and future - will be able to take part, in a special nationwide broadcast.

National Youth Leader Training

NYLT Logo 2010 Course Dates Dates Adjusted 
 
The NYLT Staff has adjusted the 2010 Course Schedule in order to allow any student whose school year has been extended and now conflicts with the 2010 NYLT week June 13-19.  The 2010 NYLT Course will begin Saturday June 12th.  Any course participants who must return to School Monday June 14th will be excused Sunday evening until 8pm Tuesday June 15th.  Participants who must leave will not miss any course material. 
 
COPE INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

 The COPE Committee will conduct a COPE Instructor Training May 8th at Camp Bashore from 8:30am until 4:00pm.  At the conclusion of the course participants will be eligible to facilitate teambuilding experiences for Scouts and other groups who use our COPE Course.

Give kids a palm-size computer, tell them to hunt for hidden treasure, and watch them go!  That's just what is done through Geocaching, a high-tech scavenger hunt that's already adding excitement to outdoor Scouting programs nationwide and is coming to the PA Dutch Council.

Volunteers Needed for Learning for Life Days 2010!
Volunteers are needed to help with Learning for Life Days 2010!  Each spring students from the Learning for Life Program are invited to a day of fun and educational outdoor activities at Camp Mack in Brickerville or Camp Bashore in northern Lebanon County.  These activities include fishing, boating, archery, nature hike, crafts, team-building games, bottle rockets, campfire, and more.  Learning for Life is an in-school character education and job skills program for male and female students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade.  The program is an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America and covers schools in Lancaster and Lebanon Counties.
