Center for
Reproductive Health |
Greetings!
The Memphis Center for Reproductive Health is proud to announce a second year grant of $150,000 from the MAC AIDS Fund to support the integration of HIV and reproductive health services in Memphis. Our project, Parallel Paths / Caminos Paralelos, will provide training and networking opportunities to local reproductive health and HIV/AIDS service providers, and will allow us to provide free rapid HIV testing and education to over 3,000 women in our clinic this year. Every cent of the $14.50 selling price of a VIVA GLAM lipstick or lipglass is donated to the MAC AIDS Fund to support men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS.So what can $14.50 buy? For our project, your lovely new lipstick would provide:
- 1 rapid HIV test and a 20 minutes of individual HIV prevention counseling
- 1 hour of group HIV prevention education for 10 women
- 1 hour of group reproductive health education for 10 HIV positive women
- 250 male condoms
- 15 female condoms
- 15 minutes of individual HIV prevention and reproductive health counseling with a medical practitioner
- 30 minutes of training for 20+ medical providers on integrating HIV prevention and reproductive health
So run over to MACY's on your lunch hour and buy a couple of VIVA GLAM lipsticks! And as always, thanks so much for your support.

Emergency
Contraception
Available at MCRH
After years on the market, confusion still persists about emergency contraceptives. They are often called "morning-after" pills, but they do not necessarily need to be taken the morning after unprotected intercourse to prevent pregnancy. In fact they may be taken up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex, although their effectiveness may diminish the longer you wait.
One thing is true, however - it's better not to wait until you need it to buy it. This is something you want tucked away in the drawer of your bedside table. You can get EC for $40 at our clinic without an appointment if you are 17 or older (if you are under 17 you will need to make an appointment). Call 901-274-3550 or check our website for hours. |
