Greetings!

As a Mom of two almost-teenaged boys, I know how much my kids rely on their father and me for honest, accurate information.  If we parents truly want to protect our kids' futures, we have to be willing to talk honestly with them about their reproductive lives and health.

Studies show that the source children trust most to give them accurate information about sex is their parents, but a
report
from the Guttmacher Institute finds that many parents feel uncomfortable in this role. They say they often think someone else could do it better, or believe (in error) thattalking about it it might actually encourage their kids to have sex.

Need some help? If you are a Memphis parent who wants to "have the talk" with your child about sex, contraception and reproductive health...or better yet, open up a life-long dialogue with your kids about these issues... join us May 5 from 7 - 8 p.m. for our first Parent Meet Up. Our new program called The Real Deal will be parent-designed with the goal of helping parents support and encourage one another to communicate accurate information, along with their own individual values, on these issues.

I look forward to meeting other Moms and Dads interested in this subject on May 5 - National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy.

As always, thanks so much for your support.

"I thought it was a very good eye-opener. Most teens don't think about how much getting pregnant could screw up their lives. I think this quiz will help people start thinking about sex and teen pregnancy and help them realize that they might not be as smart as they think." ~ Girl, age 15
