Working Together to Address Teen Pregnancypregnant

Greetings!

The Memphis Center for Reproductive Health is working with organizations throughout the community to address the growing problem of teen pregnancy in Memphis. A high teen pregnancy rate is closely linked to many of our other pressing issues including poverty, crime, failing schools, and income disparity.

As part of the Memphis Collaborative on Adolescent Pregnancy, Prevention and Parenting, facilitated by The Urban Child Institute, we are looking at ways to empower teens to make plans for all aspects of their future, including when or whether to have a baby.

This group envisions a community where children, youth, and families are provided with the information, services and support they need to make responsible decisions about planning and raising a healthy family.

In addition, our Center's Between Teens program provides free information to teens on menstruation, birth control, pregnancy planning, STD prevention, and human sexuality.  Feedback from participants indicates that this kind of medically accurate information cannot come too soon.

I hope you and your family have a happy Thanksgiving. And as always, I thank you for your support of women's reproductive health and rights.

Sincerely,

Rebecca L. Terrell

Girls Learn Importance of Making Responsible Choices
teens

Between Teens is MCRH's free educational program for teen girls. Participants learn about their developing bodies, and how making responsible choices now affects their future health.

The program also teaches young women how to navigate the health care system to receive the services they need for reproductive wellness.

Between Teens is different from many reproductive health education programs since it works with small groups, and all sessions are facilitated by a nurse practitioner. The program is being offered to participants free of charge thanks to a grant from Community Foundation of Greater Memphis.

For more information on Between Teens, or the Center's other education programs, please contact our Community Outreach Coordinator at 901-274-3550 ext. 16, or send an email to outreach@mcrh-tn.org.
