All School News

The Annual Book Fair is now open in the Main Campus Great Room.  Daily book fair hours are 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM and the fair will be open through Friday, March 11th.  New items are added all week!  Books are now labeled with AR Levels!  Pick a book for the classroom from the teachers' wish lists...and grab some free popcorn, too!  


Are you aware of your brain?  Members of the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience have prepared a short, engaging, hands-on presentation on the brain.  Come and meet your brain this weekend: Saturday, March 12th at 1:00 PM at the North Valleys Library and Sunday, March 13th at 3:00 PM at the Spanish Springs Library.   Stop by the main campus office for a flier!     


The 7th Annual GT Resource Fair is Monday, March 21st from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Wooster High School.  Learn about opportunities for Gifted and Talented children in Elementary School through High School.  There will be information tables on academic programs, talent searches, online learning and summer programs.  Program representatives from UNR and The Davidson Institute will be there.  The event is sponsored by the GT Parent Connection.  Visit them at www.gtparentconnection.org.    


Spring Break Vacation Camp will run from April 11th through April 15th.  Students in PreSchool through 1st grade can enjoy art, science, cooking and more in vacation camp.  Students in 2nd through 8th grade can sign up for Science Camp or Lego Camp.  More information will go home this week. 


The second session of the Mount Rose Youth Ski / Snowboard Lessons started last Friday, March 4th and will continue through April 1st.  Please remember your Friday ski plans when ordering hot lunch. 


You can now view and print the current Hot Lunch menu on the lunch vendor's website: nmvizion.com.  Menus for March 14th - March 25th went home last week.  Please remember your Friday ski plans when ordering hot lunch. 
 

 

 

Main Campus

 

The 3rd and 4th grade classes will be visiting the Dragons and Dinosaurs exhibit at the Wilbur May Museum tomorrow, March 10th.  We hope you have a great time! 


The teachers and students are enjoying their new Bright Link Interactive boards!  Thank you to the parents and PTA for their contributions that gave us this great technology! 


There's much creativity in the air, as children prepare for the Science Fair!  Join us in the Great Room on Wednesday, March 30th at 5:00 PM to see their wonderful inventions and science experiments.  Don't forget your science board!  They are available in the office for $3.75 and the information sheet on how to set up the display went home last week.  See your teacher if you have any questions.          


Afterschool Activity information:


The Ceramics session of Art Club with Mrs. Lyczko began this week and will continue through April 21st.  Pre-1st - 2nd grades meet Tuesdays, 3:30-4:15 PM and 3rd - 8th grades meet Thursdays, 3:30-4:30 PM.  


The fourth session of Magic Club with Mr. Meitz began this week!  All students in 2nd grade and up may join either the Tuesday session or the Wednesday session; both classes meet from 3:30-4:15 PM.  


Please note a Day Change for Tennis: Beginning this week, Tennis will be held on Thursdays from 3:45 - 4:30 PM.

 

 

 

The Little Campus
  

Our all-school themes for the month of March are Dr. Seuss's Birthday, Green Eggs and Ham, the Rain Forest, St. Patrick's Day, Community Helpers, and Learning about sometimes Sunny, sometimes Stormy Weather!


Happy Birthday to our very good friends Canon H., Lauren M., and Kendyl C.!


Congratulations to our incredible Students of the Week, Soraya G. and Carton P.!  


The always-entertaining Mrs. Conkey will be conducting this week's assembly with those adorable Brown Bears!  Please join us Friday, March 11th at 9:15 AM!


The TLC Annual Book Fair is coming Wednesday, March 23rd and will run through Tuesday, March 29th.  If you are able to volunteer during the fair, please contact Mrs. Fyda or Mrs. Bennett.  More information will be coming home soon!   


All teachers will be attending the Nevada Early Childhood Conference on April 1st - 2nd.  Brookfield TLC will open and the Teacher Aides will be teaching the regular classes on Friday, April 1st.  The aides will be going to the conference on Saturday!  Forms went home today to find out who will need care on Friday, April 1st.  If you did not receive one, please call the office.  Your prompt response is greatly appreciated so we may staff accordingly.  


The bunnies are coming!  Portrait sessions with live bunnies will be Thursday, April 7th and Friday, April 8th.  More information will be coming home soon.  A Parent coffee social will also be held on Friday, April 8th after assembly, hosted by Mrs. Lillegard's Red Bear class!  We hope to see you there.
 


 

PTA News   


PTA Family Directories are now free for everyone.  Stop by either campus office to pick up your copy.  If you already paid for a directory, leave a note in the PTA box. 
PTA Pizza Friday is this Friday, March 11th.  PTA will be serving delicious organic pizza from Z Pizza.  Please submit your order form and payment by 9:00 AM on Thursday, March 10th to ensure your child gets a slice!  If your child will be skiing this Friday, please indicate this on your child's classroom sign-up sheet in the "Ski" column, so he/she can receive pizza at 12:00 PM.    
 
Calling all parents!  We are starting to plan an Interactive Garden and Play Space for the Main Campus.  We are looking for parents who can help PTA purchase wood and concrete at wholesale cost.  If you can help, please contact Erin Mulvaney at erin_mulvaney@mac.com.  This garden will be a wonderful addition to our school.  
The next PTA meeting will be THURSDAY, April 7th from 1:30 - 2:30 PM.  
  
Congratulations and Thank You to all the students who participated in the Box Top and Dime Drive.  The Box Top winning classroom was Mrs. Menesini and the Dime Drive winning classroom was Mrs. Blackstock.  Mrs. Blackstock also won the Spirit Bear for having the most combined items per student.  Way to go First Graders!   All students earned an Ice Cream Social (yum yum)!  We will schedule the social later this Spring, on a nice, warm Friday!!
