Hide and Seek Geo-caching activity!hideandseek

October 22, at 10:00am

  •  Read the book
  •  Talk about the book
  •  Find a real geo-cache!

For  adventurous souls, we'll be doing a group-read of the book Hide and Seek by Katy Grant. One of the top choices of our Great Stone Face Reviewer's Club last year, Hide and Seek is a fast-moving adventure about a boy who loves to go geo-caching. We will gather on the Oct. 22 to chat about the book, and then we'll head out to find a real geo-cache right here in Amherst!  For ages 9 and up with parent. For more information, and to register, contact the Children's Room at 673-2288 or email Miss Sarah at shydorn@amherst.lib.nh.us.

Tessalations, Syntax, Arabesque & Rhyme

Wednesdays, October 19 and 26 from 1:00-2:30 PM

This two-part series led by Nancy Baker, will look at all the patterns we enjoy in art and language. Part 1 explores art patterning, from the symmetry and the impossible of M.C. Escher to the scrolling decoration of Islamic art to the bold dynamics of abstract expressionism and color field painting. Part 2 explores language patterning.

We'll share ideas about the structures in language that let us weave patterns in poetry and prose, and stretch ourselves in the joy of word games which let us use our alphabet to perceive the word patterns that enrich and connect us. You are welcome to attend just one or both of the sessions. Sign up now.

Remember, the library is a happening place and your library card is your ticket to free books, magazines, music, movies, Internet access, enriching programs and much more!

Sincerely,
