Ready for Blu-ray?
blu-ray

Do you have a Blu-ray player? Are you thinking about getting one?

Do you think it is time for the ATL to offer Blu-ray movies?

We need to hear from you! Please let us know if you'd be interested in seeing a blu-ray collection in the library.

Please email your comments to Sarah St. Martin.

Greetings!

BannedBooks2011Each day, all across the country, one of our most basic freedoms - the right to read - is in danger. In communities large and small, censorship attempts threaten to undermine our freedom to read. Without our constant support, the First Amendment freedoms that we so often take for granted - the right to read, explore ideas, and express ourselves freely - are at risk.

Join us in celebrating Banned Books Week, September 24- October 1, 2011. Borrow a banned book from our display tables or click here to view a bibliography of books challenged, restricted, removed, or banned in 2010 and 2011 as reported in the Newsletter on Intellectual Freedom from May 2010−May 2011.

Library eBook Collection Compatible with Amazon Kindle

Amherst Town Library cardholders can now download eBooks to a Kindle device or any mobile device running the free Kindle app, such as iPhone, iPad, Android and more. To get started, visit  http://www.amherst.lib.nh.us/DownloadableBooks.htm

KindleEBooks
The library also offers audiobooks and eBooks for use on a PC or Mac computer and mobile devices such as a smartphone, MP3 player and eBook readers including the Barnes & Noble Nook and Sony Reader. These downloadable books are available through the Library's membership in the New Hampshire Downloadable Audiobook Consortium (NHDB).

Kindle users can browse the NHDB collection, check out titles using a ATL library card, and select "Get for Kindle" to deliver eBooks to their Kindle device or any device running the free Kindle app.

What's more, with the Kindle, you can take notes, highlight passages and so on, and Amazon will hold on to that information. If you return the book (via the Manage My Kindle page on the Amazon site) and then take it out again at a later point (or purchase a copy), your annotations will still be there. One catch is that you have to be on a WiFi connection; library books won't download over Amazon's free 3G service. If your Kindle is not Wi-Fi capable or you do not have an active Wi-Fi connection, you can transfer files through a USB cable.

For more information, visit the library website, the NHDB blog, or stop by the Information and Research Desk.
