Summer Reading Begins June 18

Readers of all ages are invited to travel the globe this summer at the Amherst Town Library. The 2011 Summer Reading Program will kick off on Monday, June 27 and will take kids- and adults- around the world with a variety of outstanding activities and events. The program will run for eight weeks, culminating on Thursday, August 18 with our 3rd annual BBQ on the Town Green.

For children, "One World, Many Stories" will celebrate the many countries and cultures one can explore within the world of books. There will be prizes, raffles, performers and crafts all summer long. The hours that Amherst children spend reading will also earn money to support the work of Heifer Project International.

Teens are invited to join the summer fun with their very own theme: "You are Here!" As in past years, we'll offer "book bucks" for every book read, which may be redeemed for instant prizes or entered into weekly raffles. Throughout the summer, there will be movies, wii competitions, crafts, and more!

For adults, "Novel Destinations" will feature presentations exploring locales far and near, from Paris, to Argentina, to the comfort of your own home. Join us Thursday nights for international films projected on our big screen. And don't miss your chance to win great raffle prizes with every book read.

Summer can be a busy time with vacation and activities but reading can be a great addition to the schedule. Get started on the road to fun by visiting the Amherst Town Library and joining the library-wide Summer Reading Program!
