What is the Library Worth to You?
Calculate the value of YOUR library use!

Here at the Amherst Town Library, we like to talk about our "free" materials and services. But in reality, they are not free. They have tremendous value and communities such as Amherst that treasure and support their public libraries have an undeniable competitive edge when it comes to educating their children, increasing their property value, and enhancing their overall quality of life.

How much would the same the materials and services cost if you had to pay for them directly?

Use this simple online calculator to find out! Just enter the number of times you or your family have used a library service. The retail value of each service will be displayed and the total value of YOUR library use will be calculated.

We'd love to hear what you think of the dollar value of your library usage and of the services that the library provides. Send us an email.

Listening Has Merit

According to new data from the Audio Publishers Association (APA), audiobook listeners are affluent, well-educated, and avid book lovers. Results of the 2010 Consumer Survey show:
  • AudiobooksMore than one-third of adult respondents (37%) have listened to an audiobook.
  • Audiobook listeners are better educated and have higher incomes than non-listener.
  • Audiobook listeners are more voracious readers of print books than non-listeners. Frequent listeners of audiobooks (those who listened to 4 or more in the past year) read a average of 15 books in the past year, compared to 6 books read by non-listeners.
  • The car is still the most popular location for listening to audiobooks, however a surprising 43% of audiobook fans also reported using them while relaxing at home.

Dedicated listeners know it is easy to get lost in a great listen. There are the stories that keep you riveted to your headphones and speakers, that urge you to take the long way home, to stay up past our bedtimes, and, often, to keep listening for just five more minutes.

At the library, we offer audiobooks in a variety of formats to suit your lifestyle: CDs, cassettes, preloaded playaways, and downloads for your PC or mobile device. For improved access to our growing collection, we recently relocated our books on CD and cassette, so please let us know if you need assistance locating a favorite author or title.

Remember, the library is a happening place and your library card is your ticket to free books, magazines, music, movies, Internet access, enriching programs and much more!

Sincerely,

Amherst Town Library
