Welcome Carlos!
It is our pleasure to introduce Carlos Pearman, the library's new Reference Librarian.

Carlos has a BA in Political Science from University of Central Florida, and an Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from Florida State Univeristy.
Most recently, Carlos was employed at Southern New Hampshire University as a visiting Reference Instructor.

An avid sports fan, Carlos enjoys bicycling and has been following the World Cup. He formerly worked at the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He also likes history and can speak a bit of Spanish and Japanese.

ExpressCheck ExpressCheck
After a brief hiatus, our ExpressCheck machine is back! Located in the Children's Room, this touch screen kiosk allows you to check out your own materials! Simply scan your library card and you're off. You can also check your account and renew your items too! While we always enjoy serving you, we are happy to be able to offer this service for those who like to do things themselves.

School Book Lists sabers
The schools have released their summer reading lists and we have copies of them all. Multiple copies of each title on the Souhegan reading list are available in the teen area.
Summer Reading Program
 
The 2010 summer reading program is going strong. 425 children have signed up, along with 140 middle and high schoolers,cat and 36 adults have submitted book ratings. Raffle winners in for the first week have received great prizes, such as a notebook & pen set, travel mug, gift cards for iTunes, Walmart and the Longhorn Steakhouse, as well as free ice cream from Jake's and subs from the Homestead.

EVENTS FOR CHILDREN
Mad Science Workshop- Wacky Water
Thursday, July 8th @ 2pm
Children will experiment with water molecules, check out a wave modulator and learn how water can "stick." They will even build their own rescue diver to take home! Registration is required. Ages 7 & up.

Create a Sea Serpent Competition
Monday, July 12 @ 3pm
Kids will be divided into teams and given a bag full of supplies to create a sea serpent. All sea serpents will be put on display in the library. Registration is required. Ages 4 & up.

EVENTS FOR MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL
Just Add Water: Fun Foods
Wednesday, July 14th @ 3pm
We will be making smoothies and a swimming pool cake. Registration is required. Ages 11 and up.

Flip-Flop T-shirts
Monday, July 19th @ 2pm
Bring an old cotton t-shirt and use our fabric paint and flip-flops to make a funky t-shirt. Registration is required. All ages are welcome.

EVENTS FOR ADULTS
On the Water with Zip Kellogg
Thursday, July 15 at 7pm
Paddling enthusiast Zip Kellogg is famous for his annual appearance at the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Races in Maine canoewhere he dresses in a tuxedo or top hat while paddling through the whitewater STANDING UP! In addition to sharing his passion of paddling, Zip will be showing a 20 minute color film of a 1940 National Whitewater Championship Canoe and Kayak race held near Errol, N.H. This is the 70th anniversary of this important film which, until recently, had been given up for lost. Zip will provide commentary on the film, discuss its discovery, and more. If you ever venture into a canoe or kayak, or want to, this will be a talk not to miss!

Learn to Knit I
Wednesday, July 7 @ 1:30pm
Casting on and basic knit and purl stitches demystified.  Materials will be provided for class; feel free to bring your own needles and yarn. Kathy McNally, Instructor

Learn to Knit II
Wednesday, July 14 @ 1:30pm
A continuation of July 7th class with new members welcome. Knitting symbols and reading a pattern will be featured. Kathy McNally, Instructor
