Old Fashioned Reads: Books Your Parents
& Grandparents (and Maybe You!) Loved

Nate the GreatBefore Harry Potter, children were spellbound by the magic of a secret garden and boys and girls everywhere checked the back of their wardrobes for an entrance to Narnia.

Every once in a while, it is fun to re-read a book you loved as a child. Do you remember the first book that made you cry? Your first chapter book? The first one that kept you awake reading into the wee hours of the morning?

If you think of Ramona, Aslan, Pippi, Wilbur, Charlie, Meg, and Betsy like old friends, perhaps our list will bring make some memories. Why not check out a few and pass them on to a child or grandchild?
Summer Reading Program 2010
SRP2010
This summer is going to be filled with fun activities and events for all ages at the library. The theme of this year's program revolves around water, so be prepared to make a splash, ride the waves, or water your mind. The summer reading program will run from June 21 to August 14, with a special End-of-Summer Cookout on the Town Green on August 12.

Elementary - Make a Splash...Read!

Children must register and will keep track of their reading. As the kids read, they will earn books and prizes and chances to enter raffles. Planned activities include storytimes, craft programs, a sea serpent competition, and beach party. Visiting performers include the Toe Jam Puppet Band, Magician Peter Boie, and more.

Middle School/High School - Make Waves @ Your Library!
The book bucks are back! Participants will be awarded a "book buck" for each book they read during the program, for writing a book review, or participating in a teen program. "Bucks" may be redeemed for instant prizes or entered into weekly raffles for prizes. Special programs will be offered for students in middle and high school including craft sessions, an Eclipse Party, Wii competition, an Under the Sea Writer's Workshop, and a Pizza & Pages book club.

Adult - Water Your Minds...Read!
Simply complete an entry form for each book you read to be entered into weekly raffles. Several evening programs are scheduled, as well as a series of afternoon workshops designed to introduce or reacquaint participants with crafts such as watercolor painting, knitting, and flower arranging. We will also be offering "Games in the Garden" every Friday from 9:30 to noon.

Please join us! Visit the summer reading page on our website and the online calender of events for more information.
Remember, the library is a happening place and your library card is your ticket to free books, magazines, music, movies, Internet access, enriching programs and much more!

Sincerely,
