"An Evening with Neil Gaiman: LIVE" kicks off National Library Week

As Honorary Chair of National Library
Week, Gaiman, the 2009 Newbery Medal winner for "The Graveyard Book," will
speak to his lifelong love of libraries and the role they play in a democratic
society by supporting intellectual freedom and privacy. Library lovers and
Gaiman readers are encouraged to join in the live event on April 12 from 6 to 8 PM via UStream.tv. Viewers will need a 1 Mbps Internet connection and Flash
player.

April is a busy month in the library world. Since 1958, libraries across the
country have observed National Library Week during the second week of April. It
is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and
librarians and to promote library use and support. Look for these highlights during
the week:
Monday, April 12- "The
State of America's Libraries" report will be released. Monday, April 12- "An Evening with Neil Gaiman: LIVE" Tuesday, April 13- National Library Workers Day Wednesday, April 14- First
annual National Bookmobile Day Wednesday, April 14- ALA's Office for
Intellectual Freedom will release the "Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2009"

April Vacation Activities
Don't miss all that we have planned for April vacation!
Royal Pins for Teens & Tweens- April 26, 3-4pm Create your very own pin using play cards, felt, beads and sequins. Registration is required.
Eating Up Poetry- April 27, 3-4:15pm In honor of National Poetry Month, join us for a poetry reading/eating. Kids will get a chance to listen to a variety of poems, make a few easy snacks and then eat their tasty creations! Registration is required. Please inform the librarian of any allergies when you sign up for the program. This program is for children in grades 2-4.
John Root- April 28, 3-4pm This program invites children to flex their bodies, voices and imaginations. John plays a variety of instruments and the children will help create and enact new verses to familiar music and movement songs. All ages are welcome. No registration is required.
Book Bunch- April 29, 3:45-4:45pm This book club is for children ages 5-8. We get together and share a read aloud or two and then we do a craft. It's tons of fun! No registration is required.
 Toddler Dance Party- April 30, 10-10:30am Join us for some singing and dancing as DJ Miss Jennie spins a selection of fun kiddie CDs. There will be plenty egg shakers, little instruments, bubbles and scarves to get silly with as well as cookies and juice for treats. |
