Digging into the Past...
As Amherst celebrates its 250th anniversary, you may be inspired to dust off the history books and dig into the past yourself. Whether you are interested in discovering more about your ancestors, your home, or a intriguing historical event, we have some great tools to help you find the answers you are looking for.
If you are interested in the history of Amherst, you might enjoy browsing the digital pages of the Farmer's Cabinet (predecessor to the current Milford Cabinet) through America's Historical Newspapers. Or take a look at the published town histories, including those by Daniel Secomb and John Farmer, right from your desktop through Heritage Quest. You can even scroll through the early Amherst census rolls through Ancestry. Visit the database page on our website or stop by the Information and Research desk anytime for more information on how you can take advantage of these fascinating resources.

"Do I Need My Card?"
It's
a question we get all the time. And the answer is "Yes, you do!"
In order to check out any materials from the library, you need to present your
library card.
Why? Each library card has a unique number that quickly and
accurately identifies your library account. By presenting your card, we can
assure you that materials checked out on your account were checked out only by
you.
Remember, we share our computer system with twelve other libraries in the
GMILCS consortium. Many people in the database share a name- there are 677
Browns, over 1000 Smiths, and close to 200 Leblancs. Even when we recognize you
as a friend or neighbor, we need to scan your card to safeguard
against error.
And we make it easy! For your convenience, we now issue two
cards for your account: a full-sized card for your wallet and a small key tag
for your keychain. If you haven't "upgraded" your old white and green card to
the new version featuring Dick Fisher's painting of the Fourth of July parade,
feel free to do so on your next visit. In the event that you have misplaced
your card, you can purchase a replacement for just $2.00. |
In the Spotlight: The Children's Museum of New Hampshire
The Children's Museum of NH. | If you haven't visited the Children's Museum since it moved to
Portsmouth, why not pick up a discount visitor pass at the library and
experience the fun of new interactive, hands-on exhibits like "Dino
Detective" or Build It, Fly It"?
The library's visitor pass allows admittance for up to 4 people for just
$2 per person. Click here
